Got my black top and headlight covers painted LPM to match the car. It is off tint just a touch and I talked with the dealers paint guy and find out there are 11 variations of Pewter paint for my code. Geeze my wifes car had 3 variations when see got bumper smacked. Gonna have to get the headlight covers re done but may leave the top alone. Another issue is actually they painted it too well. The factory paint has orange peel and cloudiness in it but theirs is perfectly smooth and even adding to the difference. I knew this was gonna happen metallic paint is tough to match

I think maybe you need to find another painter, A good painter will be able to blend and you won't be able to tell, Ask me how I know...lol
I have a Pewter that the door was painted and you can't tell at all.
I know the trouble it can be. I had tried 3 different formulas of Artic white myself. It seems like it's a pain, couldn't match from paint code, VIN number, computer paint scanner.

I agree with Mr. Bill - a good painter should be able to match the pewter color to where you will not notice any color variation. When I had my '00 pewter C5, I had an MCM hood installed and the shop that did the work matched it perfectly to the rest of the car. Granted that a little blending may be needed, but not much.

I had a small accident in 2007 and had my 2003 Anniversary coupe, the right side where the passengers side door and quarter panel were replaced. Since red's like 'Magnetic red' & 'Anniversary Red' and some of the other red's used in the 97 to 04 Corvettes. Well I thought the shop was going have a real job trying match it. But County Corvette Inc. who did the repair work excellant work. Even today out in the sunlight or even in the garage under the florescent lights, where you'd normally be able to see where the stock paint on the front right fender (which wasn't damaged would look different from the repaired parts ?) But the paintered did such a great job you can't tell the difference. I've never had one single person who was able to see the fresh paint from the six year old paint. A good painter is worth his weight in gold.
It really isn't that bad just enough that I can notice. This IS the best paint shop in town I have had them do work before they are more than willing to re do it. In the sunlight most people couldn't tell but I worked in the paint shop at a GM factory so I can. Like I said I know it would be impossible to match the crappy factory job especially since it is 13yrs old and has a dark cloudiness throughout that is really kinda wierd. You can't see it in the sun just in certain lighting conditions, that and the factory orange peel cannot be duplicated. Like I told him he did so much better a job than factory even if were exactly pefect tint match it would still stand out. I am torn about having it redone or leaving well enough alone.

This is my thought on the 11 variations. The dealer paint guy may have been refering to 11 variation of pewter in the gm line and your paint code is one of the 11 variations. When I got my front license plate cover painted they ask for the paint code on my option sticker and they matched the colour. If it is a variation it should be a different code.
You car may have faded that could be one reason for the paint not matching and even with the paint code the amount of metallic between the batch of paint can cause issues. That is why when the factory paints the car all the panels are at the same time and willthey will not grab a panel paint at a different time according to the factory tour.
No Zilla it is all the same paint code. The variations come from the different batches that the factory uses and and even occur in the same model year. With Pewter some is more silver or yellow. I can see some yellow on my car and even some parts are painted off site like the bumpres, mirrors, door handles, they come to the factory already done. All the same code but slight variations in tint that most people do not notice
If a door or fender gets damaged in assembly they DO use another painted at a different time. Even in the paint shop the process controll computer are changed from time to time as equipment changes (what I did is control the robotics) from being repaired or replaced there are many variables in the paint process.
