Default Clips in Calipers

A couple of years ago, when we were switching my brake pads, rotors and powdercoated calipers,I remember there being metal clips in the spaces for the calipers. We didn't put these back at the time, but I'm thinking when I get new pads I would like to put them back in. Anyone know what they do and what the part numbers are?

And before anyone says anything, sorry for the vague description. It was a couple years ago and I don't really remember much about them other than them being in with the brake pads on the original calipers.

you should definitely be using these parts. they ensure the brake pads are locked in place, and they also provide a smooth surface for the pads to slide on when the caliper moves. I bought some new ones last year. you can buy a kit that i think is just called a caliper harware kit from the auto parts store. it includes all the brackets and also the boots for the slider pins.

As stated above, just order a brake pad kit. They should come with the clips, one caliper mounting bolt pre-coated with thread lock per side and the pads.

Here is a picture of an AC-Delco OEM kit (rear):

Not to beat a dead horse, but the clips serve a purpose. Slap them babies in there.

C5 pads are floaters (correct me if I'm wrong brake gurus). Tolerances are somewhat looser than earlier models. But still. This is kinda like taking the motor apart and having parts left over. Damn, I went back to beating a dead horse.

Peace, out.

Every time I get new pads, the Stainless parts come with them.

I have some, PM me your address and I'd be happy to send them to you. I had new brakes installed last fall and kept the clips from the old ones.

Any brake pad kit should come with those. Good to see you are still around here and still have the car, best of luck to you.
