I need to find a brush assembly for a 2004 thru 2011 Corvette alternator. Called the dealership parts dept today & they can't get it. Checked with the local parts supply and they can't get it either.
This assembly bolts to the back of the alternator (under the black plastic cover); the factory harness plugs into it and it fits down over the rear alternator shaft. Didn't think that this part would be that tough to find......any ideas????
Look in your local phone book for alternator/generator repair places.
Alternator parts like brushes, bearings and voltage regs are sold almost exclusively to places that rebuilt the units. It's a scam, really, IMO that these parts are not readily available at parts stores for guys like you and me.
I managed to buy some a while back from a rebuilder by lying to them about why I needed them. I told them I had powdercoated the housing and needed the parts to reassemble for a show car.

I guess that I'll check with a local rebuilder tomorrow. I still can't believe that you can't get these thru Chevrolet........
There are 3 heavy wires inside that really need a stronger solder than most typical hobbyists can provide and a few other details.
I used to be a vendor for polished alternators here and I always took the customer's part to a shop to be disassembled, I'd then bling the halves, and have the same PRO put it back together with new bearings, etc. That service including bearings was only $25 and well worth it. You can't beat the price for a starter shop, they are underpaid compared to most things in life these days.
I'd advise you find a local place and rest assured it's rebuilt and reassembled correctly. I can help (as a favor) if you contact me via PM, but the shop I use is old skool, I have to bring it to them in person which is a 45 minute drive each way. Not exactly what they'd charge for a full rebuild with brushes/diode/etc but they are very reasonable.
