i just bought the 18x9.5/18x10.5 black c6 z06 wheels from DOCZ- 1st Rate Corvette Parts & Acc. for my c5 z06. i want to keep the stock width and sidewall height for my new front tires so it would be correct to get a 265 40 18 since what is on it is 265 40 17 right. as i understand it (which i may be wrong), the width is the 265 and the 40 is 40% of 265 for the sidewall height and since im not changing the width just the diameter then the rest stays the same.
or should i get a shorter sidewall because the wheel is going to be bigger.
i should also add the car is lowered on stock bolts with cut bushings so clearance with the stock sidewall height on a larger wheel is a potential issue.
it seems tires are also a bit cheaper about $70 if i go with a 265 35 18

I had the same set up in repros and I went with a 285/35-18 front and 315/30-18 rear. The wider contact patch is going to give you better handling and while yes a bit more expensive the sidewalls are stiffer saving your rims in case of a low air tire or something to that effect.
the object is to keep the stock diameter (wheel & tire combined) -- or total circumference... meaning that you do need a shorter sidewall. Its easy to use something like Tire Rack's spec sheets to determine the diameter of whatever tire you are looking at. A 265/40/18 is definitely larger in diameter than a 265/40/17.
