Funny, my $18K Ford Ranger has the gage trim rings painted silver and it looks much more finished than the Vette! Some here have added the trim rings to the clusters only to have the adhesive fail and the ring pop off inside the cluster, bet they are pretty good at disassembly and reassembly?

Looks like a good way to spend a day or two.
Then you get to troubleshoot why a gage isn't working and where the squeak and rattle is coming from (that you didn't have before). Another mod for the sake of modding...
Let me just tell you all a quick story about what happened to me when I put the white face guages on my 82.
1st. mistake---forgot to disconnect the battery, can you see where this is going..
2nd. mistake---pulled to hard on the speedometer needle, you know where that went.... yup the thing broke off in my pliers...(try to find someone to rebuild an 82 speedo for you.. I was lucky and found a great guy to do it locally)
back to #1....when pulling out the guage pod from the dash I inadvertently touched the back of the cluster on the metal frame work. Go ahead and guess what happened. Right, blew out the circuit board, at a replacement cost of $100.
When all was said and done and fixed, I was very happy with the look, would I do it again.....NOT ON A BET! Just wanted to share that with you. Best of luck if you go this route. It is a cool mod though!
I put a new stereo in with Bluetooth and iPod connection and that's as far as I'm going to go in the dash. No way I'm going to open up the speedo and gauges.
