This past Sunday I went to one of the local 1/8th Drag strips with one of my friends (Mustang Bullit). We both ran about 7 times not against each other but once. I have to say it. I am completely hooked. I have been to many races when I was younger but never raced. It was the most fun I have had in a long time. And well the Vette will be recieving DR's soon and possible some GTO spares if I can find them.
I am not sure about everyone else or how they came to enjoy drag racing but not once have I felt the way I felt Sunday on my first pass taking off of the line than all the times I have done highway pulls.
Just thought I would share my enthusiasm for this as I am sure some may feel the same.
I love drag racing myself. I started racing in 1978.
Once you do it, the dragstrip is addicting. Sounds like you have the fever now.
I have been racing my Mustang GT the last 5 years but have had the Vette out once or twice.
I definately need some Mickey Thompson Drag radials out back as this car wont launch well.
The Mustang pulled 1.42 60' times, 7.0 second 1/8 miles and 11.2 second quarter miles a t about 122 MPH. I would trailer the Stang there but I drove there a few times on drag radials.
I know my C5 could run close times if I could get some good rubber in back. Hopefully this summer!
Thanks Chuck, I have been enjoying the Vette for a while just never raced it at a drag strip. Now well it's time to get kinda serious about it for local stuff
That is great, I understand your thoughts as I got hooked on drag racing 4 years ago. Went from 13.0 the 1st time out to my current best of 11.63 at 118.0. Hoping to do 11.4 at 120.0 this spring. A good 60' is the key and drag radials helps immensely. Best of luck on your endeavors.

ran my first passes in 2006 low 12's with gears headers and stall in 2010 i ran 4 races at etown 10.5 index class got better each race and was runner up last race of season. car now runs 10.3's n/a and into high 9's 100shot.and ran a new pb topend of 137.64 at mir 2/18/11. welcome to the addiction i still get butterflies prior to first burnout qualifier on race day.
I am happy for you. Once you get into racing, it is in your blood forever. I am an old codger, and have been racing since 1962. My drag car is a 1960 Falcon, 434 BB Ford best of 10.26 in the 1/4 mile. I just brought home our C5 with the now new A&A s/c, and can't wait to see what it will do on the road course, with 515 rwhp.
I've run my Vette a few times at New England Dragway. It's a blast but be prepared to spend some money. You always need something to make it go faster, not to mention fix what you broke. Racing is very hard on your car.
Yeah a 1/4 mile track will be a road trip but I would like to get out on one. The first time I pulled up to the burnout box I was kinda nervous with every one watching and all. but as soon as I staged I didnt hear anyone. Thing will break I am sure and when they do I will buy better ones
Wait until you start bracket racing and win a few rounds, then you will be hooked
I was able to win 2 events with my GN when GM Hi Tech Mag. was sponsoring events at Englishtown, it feels like you just won the SuperBowl winning through 8-10 rounds.
Won $250 each time ,plus trophies, gift certificates, name in the magazine.
Hoping to get my GN back out this year after sitting for many years and taking the Vette to see what it can do.
I love going to the track. It just got very expensive. 1st came the mods to make it go faster, then came replacing the parts that broke(clutch, rear end, etc etc) that I didn't mod. The money was flying out the door and the wife put her foot down, it was her or drag racing the vette, Damn i'm going to miss her!

I just sold my 92 Grand Am tube chassis drag car and bought my 1st vette. I was running 6.30s with 1.23 60 ft @109 time in the 1/8. I'm sure I'll miss the thrill of the launch carring the fronts out 60 ft or so, but now I'll get to have fun every day! come the end of March. Just a little hint Drag Racing IS exspensive, and fun.
i just installed a 3600 stall, and 3:42 gears, but my local track is closed? i dont know where to find a track near st.Louis mo?
We have quite a few guys from St.Louis that come to Havana to race at Midstate Dragway. There are a few places you can go. Charleston,Il. , Sikeston, Mo. and I57 at Benton,IL. A lot of tracks are in trouble, with the economy the way it is. That's why I sold my car, and bought my vette. I'll just borrow my sons car if I feel the need.
