What, exactly, is your problem?

The HUD controls occupy the left binnacle of the dash.

The up/down arrows move the display up and down. The slider takes the display from "Off" to full bright. The "Page" button cycles through the various options of the display. Holding down the "Page" button will turn on/off portions of the display.

HUD controls on left. HUD is physically buried in dash, square hole between cluster and cowl, projector shines up on specially manufactured windshield.

If you have HUD, you'll have a rectangular cut out on your dash in front of the steering wheel. This will display up on your windhield. If you can't see it, the controls move it up and down, light to bright. Just keep playing with it.

As mentioned the controls are on the left of the dash. There is a fader type of control that should adjust the visibility of the HUD (Heads Up Display) from none to bright. If it has those controls and if there is a big square hole in the dash under the window of the drivers side then it has it. I believe the earlier years that didn't have it didn't have the controls of the big hole in the dash.

HUD controls:

HUD hole is in the middle of the photo on the dash just before the windshield.

What the HUD info looks like on the windshield. You can change the info on the right by pressing the page button. It has stuff like gas levels, and other things.

One last note, if the car ever had the windshield replaced sometimes people cheap out and put in a non HUD windshield. The windshield is specially designed to take the HUD projector's reading in that spot. About half the time the info will still be displayed and ok. And the other half the info can be displayed but blurry to not there at all.

Welcome to C5 ownership. Have fun, be safe and don't forget to wave.

EDIT: "bullmarket" beat me to it with some great info in that video. Anyway, there it is for you if you can't play video I guess.

When I bought my 02 it's HUD was working but it would not display the image on the windshield. Look into the rectangular opening in the dashboard and see if the green numbers are visible. If they are then try to adjust the HUD controls up or down to see if it becomes visible.

If it does not then your HUD module is damaged and you will need to install a new one. I picked one up for about 250 and installed it myself. The only problem is that you have to take the dashboard apart to reach it. There is a write up on this forum that gives a step by procedure on how to do this.

Good luck,

And yes the HUD display is really cool and definitely worth fixing.

Yeah the slide mechanism is probably all the way down. Some people like it and some don't, I love the feature. Guess you didn't get an owners manual with the car.

Hopefully it is just either the brightness control or the image is just too low for you to see it.
