Default Need info about A/C delet

Im pretty sure that one of my idler pullys of my ac unit is squeeking really bad. At first it was only when it was cold but now its even after going 271k on the autobahon. I have left her in the garage all winter only starting her every week or so. Has anyone elses pullys gone bad. I also was wondering if they had some kind of kit where you could just delet that hole ac system and remove that belt. Would me removing that belt afect the motor in any way? I did some limited research it but ran outta time. If anyone has some info it would be much appreciated.

You can delete it with no ill affects to the engine. Hardly the prefered method for fixing a squeeky idler pulley though.

if you can afford a Z06 it stands to reason that you can fix it correctly.

replace the bad idler pulley and be done with it.

He asked for info- not your perception of what he can afford or a zo6 owner should be able to afford. Truth is, as time goes on, the car is not as exclusive as it once was due to resale value. I'm curious myself. Would the computer throw codes if it were removed?

your answer to a technical question is "you should be able to afford it" is poor form on your part. The question was technical and you answered him with an "honest" judgment.

The a/c system is not only for cooling yourself in the summer time. The car will automatically blend cool, dry air with the heat to keep the windows and interior dehumidified in cooler weather. One of the major benefits is not having all your windows fog up and not getting a damp, clammy feeling in your interior. The slight performance difference from removing the a/c system is greatly outweighed by not sweating in the car on a extremely hot day.

Well I was pretty rough on her yesterday after I removed the belt and the pulleys and nothing changed at all. I ordered the parts but in the mean time i took all the bad stuff off. I plan on putting it all back on. If anything changes i will be sure to let yall know. Thing is i never really use my AC. Im from TEXAS but living in germany right now so i will prob need it when i get back. Thanks for all the info

This awnser is garbage. There is often more than one way to do things.

Nate, I just replied to your PM and then saw this. You might look in the autocross section as the are more people intrested in saving weight there. Being from TX, you may want to hang on to the AC though.

I agree. I would never remove mine unless I was making an all out track car. My days of riding around in a car with no ac is long past. The ac comes on and off automatically in the climate controlled cars. In an earlier post I asked if it would throw codes if removed, because it seems every system is monitored by the computer.

Nope no codes. I took her to trier witch is about 150 miles away just to see what would happen and its all good. No codes no nothing. She is running better than ever. I was going about 120mph pluse the hole way. It was fun. Enen more fun when this 7series tried keeping up with me. poor guy paid all that money for his V12 and couldnt hang. Ether way shes doing fine. I willl put everything back together when i getr the parts in. I think yall are right about driving around in the summer with no AC. Thanks
