I just started to get a creaking almost crack noise from the rear left of my Z06. It happens just before stopping "crack", and then the same noise only a little louder, crack, crack" when I start to move. I have put it up on a lift and tryed to make the noise, but I cannot duplicate it. I am not strong enough:rolleyes: to move the suspension around like that, well I think that is where the noise starts at. It happens all the time while driving, more after the car is well warmed up.
Sorry CJ, I have not experienced this. Does not sound good though. I would bring it to the dealer to see if the problem can be duplicated.
Good Luck and let us know what it is...............
CJ -- Are you sure it's coming from the outside of the car? I get a creaking from time to time IN my car, and it sounds like it's coming from the driverside rear somewhere -- or, it may be coming from the plastic pieces under the rear window in the trunk area. Then again, if I really knew just where it was coming from, I would have corrected it by now. LOL
Does the sound sound like a strut poping? I dont know if you have ever heared that but that is what i am thiking it sounds like. It might be your breaks or the suspension! I would take it to the dealership. :smash:
I am experiencing the same creaking noise. When I take off, there is a noise like the rear cross spring needs grease. Has anyone found a source of the creaking?
I just fixed this on my car today... I had been happening for some time r(right rear) and I eventually found the solution on the forum. The noise is now gone and I am very happy..
Here is the info from Lager99 who in turn go the tip from another forum member.....
No problem...when you take the center cap off the wheel, there is a huge axle nut. There is no need to take off the wheel or even jack it up. When you take that nut off, or have a shop do it, the axle is exposed. Spray it with a lubricant to blow out any rust particles. The nut has to be retorqued. I know this sounds retarded, no mechanic would ever believe you...that's why I did it myself...it works!
The sound I had was when I first let out the clutch. Fwd or reverse, it was like a metal clip clicking in the wheel. I hope this helps, ask me anything else if I'm not being clear. It was wierd & frusrating for me, especially when there is nothing wrong when you drop the car off.
btw... The axle nut is 34MM and has to be re-tourqed to 118 lb ft.
I'm familiar with that sound on a C4, it typically means rust on the rear spindle/hub, which is easily cleaned off. I guess it could be the same thing on a C5?

I had the same problem on my 01. If I were the engineer I would make the right side a left handed thread design. Mine was actually loose. Maybe a 1/4 turn and the noise is gone. There is also a possibility that some folks are experiencing Posi-clutch noise.
