Default Jack up on a slope

I want to do some work under my car that will be very messy, so I'd like to do it outside rather than in my garage.

Problem is, I need to get the car up about 2-3 feet in the air (at least one end at a time) and my driveway is very sloped.

Anyone have any ideas how to do that SAFELY? Particularly getting the rear in the air. With the front in the air, I've still got the trans and e-brake holding it in place, but with the rear, all I've got are some chocks that could slide.

Anyone have any ideas?

Cover your Garage floor, seriously. Use cardboard. Don't risk safety.

That's like safely peering into the business end of a gun that's locked, loaded, and just had it's trigger pulled....it's not going to end well.

Do it in your garage.

A sack of floor dry works wonders after the job as well!! leave it sit over night,,stir it around the next day and leave it sit for a day or two. Usually there is little to no trace of a mess after you sweep it up!! As stated these options beat the heck out of the dangerous driveway options!! Be careful doing it on the level as well,,raising a car that high with out a lift has a bit of a risk factor even under good conditions!!

I had a car "roll" off the jack when I did it in the back garage that is barely sloped. Not a good advise if you ask me.

take the safe way. plenty of ways to insure a good complete clean up of your garage floor. not worth taking ANY risk for the sake of a little bit of clean up should it become necessary.

I appreciate all the advice, but covering the garage floor isn't an option. There will be a ton of water and it'll run into my basement ruining the sheetrock below. It's either the slope or nothing.

I agree, safety first. That's why I'm asking the question. I have no intention of doing this unless I can ensure that it's done in a safe manner.

it would help if we knew what the heck you are going to do?

no one here or any other forum will ASSURE you that doing this on a slope will be safe to do.

What about the road? Is there a level enough spot you can do it in the road if you're in a low-traffic subdivision?

Don't do any work on the slope. Do the work in your garage or find another level place to work on your car.

No. Wish I could but the road is only slightly less sloped than the driveway.
