The C5 was actually designed as a convertable so no "extra" bracing was required. They actually did the C5 backwards. Normally a car is designed as a coupe then once its done they chop the top and beef up the frame to support it being a vert. With the C5 they designed a Vert then laid a hard top on top of it so no extra baracing was necessary. Its all well documented in the book "All Corvettes are Red"
