Default Changing tire sizes

Hi All,
There are many different discussions on the forum regarding tires but couldn't see one on changing the sizes.
Here is my situation. The tires on my '98 Pace Car are worn (original) so the time has come to replace them. The dilema. I plan on going up sizes in wheels and tires in about 12 months but as the tires are worn now I need to replace them, so I decided to buy second hand ones.
I can get brand new second hand tires (came off a new car) for the front - standard size 245/45/17.
Now the rears. I am having trouble finding second hand standard size - 275/40/18 here in Australia, but have found 2 very near-new ones. The problem is that they are 285/40/18.
Does anyone think there will be problems going from the 275 up to the 285's while keeping the front standard size?
Thanks in advance.

George.

The quick answer is no problem since these tires will not be on the car very long.. IF these were the tires you were buying new I'd say to not go with quite that much stagger (your sizes mentioned will have about 1.3" stagger)

Here is a tire Size calculator you can use.
