Great Tribute. Thanks for your generation's sacrifice. I've been to the sandbox a few times and every time I've come home I get off the plane there is a group of vets -, Vietnam and Korean War guys and their wives - there to meet me and my Soldiers. Thank you. Nobody was here for you when you guys came back, yet your brothers were over there for for us. Great looking hood liner. And thanks for your service.
This is something I wrote and sent to the Daily Herald on 5/27/11 in honor of my friend John Dennis, who was killed on 5/31/68 when our patrol was ambushed. It was in yesterday's newspaper. (I didn't think they'd print it so quickly.)
Today is the 43rd anniversary of your death. Friends and families will be getting together to celebrate a day that marks the unofficial start of summer. Unfortunately, many will give little or no thought to you or the thousands upon thousands of brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom. I will think about you and all the others as I do every day. Your beautiful smile is forever etched in my minds eye. My Marine Corps flag is flying proudly in your honor as it does every Memorial Day.
Today I am reminded of how fortunate I am to be able to smell the delicate fragrance of blooming lilacs, the aroma of countless grills riding the breeze in our neighborhood, and the scent of freshly mowed grass. Insignificant? Perhaps, but simple pleasures that you gave up many years ago in a land so far away. I want you to know that you are greatly missed and will never be forgotten. I have kept you alive in my heart and you are my hero. Semper Fi
