Default Popcorn sound at cold start

My exhaust is making a popping sound at cold start. After a couple of minutes when everything starts to heat up, the popping stops. Does anyone know why?

Stops because the popcorn is all popped...Sorry....couldn't resist!!!

It sounds like the condensation in the exhaust might just be burning off. Might want to watch for steam out the pipes. If that stops at the same time the popping does....probably it and no big deal.

If you smell butter...I was right the first time! :~)

sounds right, that's what our steam pipes do at work. You might want to post in the tech section

Are there any codes in the DIC? Is the smell of gasoline overwhelming/eye burning?

The popping could be unburned fuel/rich condition in the exhaust system rather than water condensation.

I don't think so because the car is tuned just right and if that was the problem the popping probably wouldn't stop once the car started to warm up

Note that the popping has stopped in the last section of the video when the car has warmed up

Sounds a little excessive and more than just condensation. Also if it was tuned just right the popping might not happen at all, just a suggestion. Looks like you have quite a bit of work going on there, good luck.

Did you look at the DIC? It says "service active handling" and "low washer fluid"...add some washer fluid...problem solved?

I totally have to agree with this - it looks as if you are doing a lot of work on the Vette and with the exhaust mufflers OFF there is absolutely "NO" back pressure on the Vette thus the popping!

Are your Catalytic Converters removed too?

Because that would definetely make a huge difference along with the mufflers being removed!!!!

Thanks,Matt

The car sounded exactly the same even before I cut the mufflers off

If I would have a guess it would be the cats, I don't know what brand they are but they're supposed to be "race" according to the previous owner

No codes and not running rich, I know the smell and eye burn because it was running rich when the lambdas were attached incorrectly and this is not the case now

This is not really a problem for me since the popping goes away after a couple of minutes, I'm just currious as to what causes this. And, well yea it would be great to know whether the engine is going to blow up anytime soon or something but as long as the popping only occurs when the car is cold, I'm not to worried, only curious

what engine/exhaust/intake modifications have been done to the car? It would help us 'armchair' diagnosticians to pinpoint, or at least ballpark, your problems.
