Shipping on tires is expensive period. I have purchased tires online that were shipped out to me in the past but shipping has gone up so high that I quit buying tires online for any of my vehicles. Your best bet if you really need to ship them is to find a trucker maybe a friend of a friend going out to the state you are shipping to who can bring them along at a reasonable cost. When building my Street Rod I had the frame and body picked up in Florida at different times by a trucker I knew who use to pick up Produce in Florida and bring it back to New Jersey. Used him twice back in '92 and saved a bunch of money. Anything else you are gong to have to pay the going rates out there. Go and check some of the tire web sites for the same type of tire you want to ship and look at what they are getting to ship them. Remember they are probably also getting a discount being they ship many tires every week. You will be surprised at the cost today.
Check with the local bus station if you have one....they ship for less than half what UPS & Fedex charge.....I shipped 2 truck wheels (22X12) from east TN to Calif for $40 ($20 per wheel)....

I sent a set of Goodyear GS-D3s to Washington state about 8 months ago. Just used some cling wrap (available at places like Staples) and then taped a mailing label on each tire and took them to UPS. But I do agree that if you have a bus line like Greyhound locally they can probably ship them much cheaper than anyone else.
UPS Ships tires all the time. Maybe you should check with them.
BUT you have to go directly to a UPS distribution center. NOT a "UPS Store".
Example, I shipped two tires from South Carolina to LaLaland. "UPS store" wanted $94 PER TIRE, UPS distribution center charge me $46.00 for BOTH. When I told the counter person at the center how much the "store" wanted, he said, "that sounds about right for them, they're always high"

Funny you mention this. My wife swears that she gets a better break at the UPS Store then at the local UPS distribution center and she ships plenty of things by way of UPS. At the Distribution center she said they don't look out to save you any money where as our local UPS Store will bundle packages going to the same place and saved her money and always look out to save her money in other ways. My wife ships many things out and trust me she is going to where she feels she is saving money. Getting back to the tire shipping as someone else said Forget About It. Some things cost almost as much to ship as what they are worth anymore. Just not worth it at times. In my small business I use to send defects back once or twice a year. Because of the shipping prices I just eat the merchandise so to say as it is not worth it anymore to ship them back.

The only things that come here on a bus are dirtbags and drugs from NYC.
Check if there's a local Pak-mail over there. They usually get good discounts from carriers. I use them to ship all the heavy stuff and I usually get 30% off list price and pay no extra for handling etc.
I have shipped standard C5 size tires using FedX several times with no problems. From Oregon to the east coast was like $30 for two tires taped together with straping tape. I just set up an online FedX account and entered the W-H-L and weight of the strapped together tires, printed off the shipping label, taped it onto the tires and dropped them at a local FedX outlet. Was really easy, no gripes, no hassle.
BTW, the UPS price was about double when I checked
