Default Spark Plugs And Wires.

I am getting ready to be married, which of course means a honeymoon. I have convinced my soon to be wife we can drive instead of fly and no need to take her santa fe, we can make it a road trip in my corvette! I only have a K&N cold Air Intake and aftermarket exhaust. I am wanting to put in new wires and plugs. I did not know if you guys have any suggestions on brands? Also, are additives like gum out ok to use in a highoutput engine like this? Sorry if the last question is

alot of people here use the red wires from GMwarehouse. Others use MSD wires (like me)

Alot of people use the NGK TR55 plugs (like me) and others stick with with the more pricey plugs

I personally have never used any additives other than Techron fuel system cleaner every once and awhile.

With regards to the plugs, the iridium spark plugs will last much longer for you. Most of the performance people opt to use the TR55 plug is a copper plug that will probably only last 12-15K miles.

Lots of different threads with information on them. Happy hunting.

I put on a set of wires from advance and a set of platnium plugs my car did not really need them according to most sources but I think it made the car run a little better.

I think the wires were somewhere around 35 and the plugs were about 2 each so for a few bucks you will have a great running car and not break the bank.

For a little added umph I like to index the plugs, like I did in my old drag racing days.

Not to steal the OP's thread, but which way do you index them?
1. opening away from piston
2. opening towards piston
3. opening facing the exhaust valve

I always placed them facing the piston, it might not do much on an engine that is not set to the specs of a race built engine but it gives me something to do.

Just the old drag racer in me.

I suggest you buy your "wife" a plane ticket so you make it to the honeymoon happy.

In my opinion, long distance drives are some what risky due to not having a spare tire and add the cost of high h gas prices generally make driving long distance not worth the amount of time it takes for a vacation.

Just a suggestion to start your marriage on the right foot.

For plugs, try AC Iridiums. For wires, GMPP red wires will work great. Both available from Gene at gmpartshouse.com.

Believe it or not, I am getting ready to drive from Texas to Washington State. Due to being in and going to a small town, It is actually about $400 cheaper for me to drive there.

Not having a spare is a risk, but I guess it also depends on how long your vacation will be. I enjoy driving, so that's part of my vacation

Another "GMPP & iridium plug" happy customer from GMPartshouse here

Don't sweat the spare thing, just check the car well before you go.

Since you asked about additives (Voodoo juices) and before you change your plugs, you might consider a treatment with SeaFoam. Lots of good reviews here on the forum and it's not really a miracle additive like other voodoo products. It doesn't stay in the engine...it cleans and leaves!!

Great advice since road debris has never caused a blow out while on a trip.
