Having owned both,I completely disagree with the poster. The C4 was hands down the ugliest vette ever built, and the poorest performing. No comparison to a C5 in any way shape or form.
Thanks for the kind words. I really am an enthusiast. I love to look at all the generations of vettes. I always wanted one but life's choices made me make decisions based on what was best for the family.
I was looking for a Harley actually, when I decided on a vette. My wife said she wouldn't get on a Harley so I said Ok, it's time for a vette. I wanted a C3 but couldn't quite find what I was looking for and I found the 90 in St Louis, about an hour away. It had 56K on it and was right at the point it needed some things. So I repaired it all and it now looks and drives like a new one.
After having it for almost 3 years I realized what I wanted in a vette and the C5 FRC fit my style and preferences.
I've had a lot of the old muscle cars and a vette to me is the final step in a long journey. And I love it.

When the C5 first came out I saw one at a dealership, I couldn't believe what I was looking at. They hit a homerun with the C5. IMO
I agree about the seats...C4 was better. Everything else goes to the C5. C5 interior gets knocked a lot...but if anyone has owned a C4 before, they know the interior makes a ton of rattle noises. C5 is a timeless classic. In my opinion, its what grabbed everyones attention about the corvette since 53-66 vettes.
That being said, I love my C5 Z06 over the C4 Collectors addition I had before.
You know, this is one persons perspective, and we all have them. I have owned both and I love them both. I remember when I first drove my C4 (1992 6 speed coupe) and was thrilled with it, but I would not change my C5 for a C4, no way. The only way I would probably own a C4 again woud be as a daily driver. The C5 is hands down better, for me. I always use the analogy that the C4 is like a brute and the C5 is very refined.
Funny to see so many people bash the looks of the C4 but not specify which generation it is they don't like. Personally I always thought the Gen II C4 looked way better than the Gen I, but lately I've been going back and forth. It's funny how much the C6 looks like the Gen I C4.
I've had four C4's and two C5's over the years. Some things I liked about the C4 were the clamshell hood as there were no side seams and had an awesome look when opened with the tires and suspension exposed, the seats for me had better support and were more comfortable, especially the seats I had in my 95 I feel were the best, the fog lights were better incorporated into the front fascia, I like how the headlights rotated open (cool effect) instead of just pivoting up, front corner lights lit up lighting the side where you were turning into when turn signal activated, also rear corner reverse lights as well as reverse lights really lit things up when reversing. What do I like better about the C5, well just about everything else. C5 wins on styling, performance, reliability, interior and the rigidity of the Convertible is a night and day difference over the C4. I had a 90 Convertible that I picked up from the dealer in November of 89 and had the hardtop option that I left on until the next spring. The car felt great with the hardtop on, but when I removed it and drove it with only the rag top the car felt like it had some bolts missing or something, huge difference in stiffness, so much so my next C4 was a coupe as I did not like how the C4 Vert felt at all. So the C5 is as big of an improvement over the C4 as the C4 was over the C3 and I hope the C7 is as big of an improvment as well instead of just making it a C6.5.

It is very much an opinion thing to say the C4 was the ugliest Vette. BUT, to say it was the poorest performing is simply inaccurate. It was less of a performer than the C5Z which is the natural progression of any car line.... HOWEVER, it performed 10xs better than any C1, C2 or C3 And if youve ever owned or driven a healthy ZR-1, youd find your comment about no comparison in any way shape or form also to be inaccurate. My 92 ZR-1 would whip the **** out of a base C5. The last time I raced that car, it was against an SRT8 Charger. He was very embarrased when it was over.
