cut outs... worth the $
anyone have cutouts and do you like em or not use them? i am close to getting a cam installed and can't deside if i want to go with cut outs. anyone have any pros or cons on cut outs. thanks
I dont have them, but my good buddy does on his Z06. He's got heads, cam, LT's with the stock TI system and cut offs. Allows for not pissing off the neighbors and you can open it up on the back roads or whenever you want.
I have them on my stock AE and absolutely LOVE them. They are the most fun mod I have done. Anywhere from OE quiet to outrageously loud.,...and anywhere inbetween.
I actually have summit's cutouts, they work really well as they should just as long as you time the open/close times so you know how long to hold the button down(in order not to burn out motor)
DMH have really nice cutouts also and Ive only heard good things about them.
They sound pretty dumb if you have a stock motor with cats and awesome without them - especially with a cam.
I took mine off last year and sold them. They sounded retarded on my stock C5Z.
I have been thinking about getting some also. Here is a video I found on youtube "Not My Car". Its a stock c5 dyno with cutouts open and closed. Looks like it gained 11rwhp with them open.
I personally have them on my car, QTP's here, as far as performance there isn't really a major effect, but I personally like having the control of being able to adjust how loud the car is and when cruising on the highway if the "drone" people refer to bothers any riders I just close them over and don't have to worry about it. Just took a trip from Ohio to Daytona Beach and had them open the majority of the way, only decided to close them so the passenger could sleep for the next leg of the trip. In that regard I find it to be a great investment for my application!
