Free Reving

Is it true that free reving is bad for the car, Ive heard you need to have the clutch engaged when reving the car. How much is true, how much is myth. I just reved my car to 6500 to show my pops my lg header setup.

I dont see why it would be bad. Then again, I wouldnt recommend any type of reving on a cold engine. After the engine warms up, shes good to go.
