HELP!! Electrical Failure
I experienced a complete electrical power failure Saturday in my '04 Z06 while I was driving back to Florida after a week long business trip to Texas. I was able to pull off the road, but almost became a hood ornament for a semi crusing right behind me. After pulling over, I was able to restart the car, although a "charging system failure" showed on the DIC, but it immediately cleared itself and hasn't registered since.
I bought the car in Jul '09 and have put about 18K on the odometer and there are no modifications to the car. I had the car in the shop in August '10 to replace the a/c compressor and a week prior to my trip I had a P492 code and I fixed the problem by spraying carb cleaner/WD40 into the secondary air system. The details of the the power failure are as follows:
Speed: 77 mph (cruise control set)
Radio: on
Odometer: 72K
Distance traveled the day of the failure: ~300 miles
Weather: Dry/no rain
Modifications: none
DIC: None, before or after
The remaining 425 mile drive was uneventful, but I turned the cruise control off for the rest of the trip. If anyone has any idea what caused the complete electrical power failure, I would be most appreciative for your insight/help.
