I bought my first Corvette, a 2004 vert in Nov. 2010, just before the first snow of the year. I therefore didn't get to hardly drive it before I had to put it in storage for the winter. Well, today I finally got it out, and took my first short road trip. I puttsed along at 66 mph, just enjoying the car and the nice weather. I had reset the gas mileage gauge before I left, and didn't bother checking it till I got home. When I checked it, it showed 31.6 miles per gallon! Is this possible? If so, with $4.00 gas on the horizon, everyone should be driving a Corvette!

The only real way to know is to fill up the car and when you go to fill up next time divide miles driven by the amount of gas it takes to fill up. Mine is pretty accurate though as far as the average mpg display compared to my actual calculations.

Yeah, I figured I would have to try that before bragging to my friends. It was all highway driving, but still..........
I just got back from a trip for work. Luckily, I was able to drive . 340 total miles with about 15 of that in town driving at my destination. The remainder was highway, running around 75+ mph.
The DIC showed 26.3. The actual was 340 miles using 13 gallons of gas (26.1 mpg).
Not bad for an A4 with 3:15 gearing. I do love my econobox
When the vette was stock I found both the instant gas mileage readout and the average readout to be 1-2mpg high. I averaged 28mpg on the highway, 24mpg combined.
It is amazing the fuel mileage one gets in these things. Of my 3 vehicles my vette gets the best mileage. Can't beat the wifes Camry though but it's not far off.
i constantly get just about 30mpg (sometimes a very little bit more, sometimes just a bit under) on road trips (over 100 miles) with the cruise control set at 78 and very few times that it gets interrupted (my usual trip is turnpike miles totaling approx 225 miles one way to visit some friends upstate). i was a bit surprised because i had read about the mileage folks were getting and was a bit skeptical but my car (04 ce 6 speed convertible) fits right in with all the others, lol.
Yes they get great mileage!! Now for accurate numbers you do have to do the actual gallon into miles math as the DIC does tend to be a little bit optimistic!! Mine runs around 1.5 mpg "happy"!! still I manage low 20s in mostly city driving and 30ish on the highway. The best I did was in our clubs economy run where I took 2nd in the C5 class. An 85 mile trip with some in town,,some 2-lane highway and country back roads. I got an actual 33.71 mpg , and I didn't go overboard with babying it,,did the speed limits(and maybe a bit more sometimes) and even PASSED some that were ******* it on the 2 lanes!! The winner got 34.67 !! They were filled by the officials that uses a small plastic ball under the lever, and stopped when it "clicked"off,,they then put a tape seal on the gas door. These were legit mpg numbers in real world conditions!! On another occasion on a test and tune night,,I turned several 13.1s and 2s topped off with a 13.08/110.24 !! Gotta love these cars,, they run like the proverbial bat outta hell,,and can turn around and get econo box mileage!!
While I haven't taken any long trips in my 2002 convert, my brother drove his stock 2003 convert from Portland, Oregon, over the Rockies, to Sturgis, S.D. and returned, and averaged just over 30 MPG driving at 70-75 MPH
edit.....you really need the 2.73 rear axle for the 30+mpg range

Reason: add
2000 coupe, automatic, 3:42 gear, Michelin PS2 Run Flats.
I've gotten 31.5mpg at 60mph with no air cond on a cool day.
MPGs are per my calcs, not the computer.
Just got back from the Maxton Mile and got 27.5mpg
with average driving at 75mph (some 80mph), with no air cond.
