Only a few weeks after pulling my beautiful car out of storage, I am struck by a driver who wasn't paying attention.
The fateful event occured at the top of a ramp in a parking garage, where stopped per the yield sign to oncomming traffic. A guy pulled around the corner at said yield sign, but I guess never saw me. Ran right into the front of my car, and I wasn't even moving. MY lights were on and everything!
After immediately shouting profanities out my open window, I got out and asked him why he didn't see me. The guy looked absolutely horrified, and quickly appologized. Atleast he realised it was his fault and we didn't have to get into some retarded arguement about who hit whom.
On the bright side of things, the guy cooperated quite well and didn't try to run away. Got his info, filed a report, blah blah blah.
Just got the damage report in, looks like its gonna cost him 2,850$. Bumper is cracked, so is the signal light. Hopefully my insurance doesn't go up, greedy bastards.
Make sure it goes to a shop of YOUR choice and make it clear NOT to report it to Car Fax.. It can be done! Otherwise, you need extra $$$ for the declined value due to the accident.
Trying to stay positive, but I just can't help being in a bad mood. I'm not even sure how this guy is going to react to how much damage his son did to my car, despite it looking like "nothing too serious".
More than just the damage, I'm more angry that my carefully kept car is now going to have a mark on it's otherwise perfect history.
No one was hurt and hopefully you did report the accident and had the police on site.
I agree with the Tiger Shark front end you can end up making Lemonade out of lemons.
Well it did happen and now is the time to get it back on the road.
I had a similar thing happen on a previous car I owned a few years back. I plead with the shop not to report it on CarFax AND I negotiated a declined value pay-out from his insurance. He's lucky your neck and back didn't start hurting after the accident, I was in physical therapy for 3 months.
A couple suggestions on the repairs: Make sure the shop doesn't butt-match the paint, it NEEDS to be blended and be careful with the bumper cover because it's a different material than the body and the paint will lay down differently if the shop hustles it. Also, make sure that they get the gaps/fitment right when they put the new bumper cover on, it's pretty hard to do with the 'vette.
You didn't do anything wrong and you are owed a car that is in the same condition as before this jacka$$ hit you. If it doesn't get done right the first time, make them re-do it until you're happy with it.

I got hit yesterday too from behind. Guy was talking on his phone he said to me. Luckily it was not my Z06, but it was my second favorite ride... my VW GTI. I got a Nissan Versa as a rental today. What a piece of crap. Its amazing that my 5 yr old GTI is amazingly a lot better in quality, feel, handling, power, steering feel, fit,... just about every aspect... I can feel the damm thing roll over in the turns. I have to drive this piece of crap for 2 weeks now... I miss my little turbo GTI hotrod already.....
I guess its better than walking...
Sorry about your misfortune. I hope you get it fixed soon !

I know the shop pretty well where I'm getting the work done. The guy who will be doing the work owns a vette, and is certified by GM to work on Corvettes, as well as has tons of experience in repairs/ modifications/ restorations.
I wouldn't be surprised if hes on this forum. It's a caddy dealership in Brookfield, WI.
They'll be taking all the panels off for a proper paint job, as well as for blending etc. I'll compare some numbers on a tiger shark bumper vs a OEM bumper - unless someone knows?
Still waiting on the word for how this guy is going to pay for this, he said he wanted to pay out of pocket - but that was before the estimate.

I'll upload photos soon.
Your insurance should not go up if he admits 100% responsibility, even if you notify your insurance company. As long as he says it was his fault and they are not paying for anything. From a recent experience that wasn't my fault either... my insurance company uses $500 as a determination. If they pay out a total of $500 or more to either/both party, the accident is on your record but then they usually look at the bigger picture before raising rates. (how many claims, accidents & tickets over the past 3 years - at least that's what they said ) If payout is less than $500, not on your insurance accident record. Well I'm sure it's there but doesn't cause a rate increase now. They'll probably consider it later if another accident occurs. My company has accident forgiveness too but you need to be careful using that. It's once every 3 years (with my company, others may be different). If used, the clock resets and you have to go accident free for 3 more years to get it again.

Be sure and go after reduced value on your car. I am retired ins adjuster and ins company will not offer this, you have to go after it. Look at it this way, if you were looking at two identical Vettes for sale except the only difference was one had been accident damaged and one had not. Which one would you choose? The ins company owes this money. They are supposed to put you back where you were before accident. You now have a wrecked car and no matter how good a job the shop does, from this point foward it will always be a wrecked car. The only way to put you back whole again is with money, since they can't make the accident go away. The best way to establish amount of reduced value is try to sell it to a dealer and tell them it has been wrecked and then take it to a dealer and don't tell them and see what the difference is. You will be suprised! State laws differ on this. For instance the state of Ga. requires ins company to pay reduced value and that amount is set by state. They use a very complicated formula that takes in amount of damages and several other things. But remember this, The amount of reduced value is based on the amount of damages, not the value of the car.

Toque
I got a Versa last week for a rental when I was traveling for work. That thing is the most worthless plastic piece of junk I have ever driven! I wanted to drive it in the biggest piece of water I could find...haha. Love GTIs and a 15 year old GTI would be better than that car.
Sorry to hear about your acciedent and hope everything works out!
