Default different idea..thoughts welcome

I am tossing around the idea of going with black side mirrors on the car. Wanted to know if anyone has done this/has it. What you guys think?

I've seen some (real) carbon fiber side mirrors on black C5s and I thought they looked pretty good. My only concern with black side mirrors on other colored cars is that they would look like black mirror covers from more than 5 ft. away.

Carbon fiber would look great, but mirrors made from the real thing would be prohibitively expensive. Take a look at this website, www.xpel.com They sell a thick carbon fiber vinyl that looks and feels like the real thing. It conforms itself to the shape of the mirror with the application of heat, and looks very close to real carbon fiber, at a fraction of the cost. I have some that I used on my car (on the small triangle shaped pieces at the front of each door (winglets?) and they look terrific!

Retro

back in the early 70's it was common to paint the stock color matched racing mirrors black, (as they were called in the day) (stream-line style like the C5's)

also painted black were the lower rocker panels, hood scopes, hood tach, front & rear spoilers, & black out the chrome grill ...

my Carousel Orange 1969 GTO Judge went from ALL Orange to Orange & Black - today people would not be happy with that

your car looks killer as is

Get a black trash bag, cover the mirrors and see if you like the way they look, use black tape or black vinyl as an alternative

--just to see what they look like, I'm not a hack

Your car, your choice, but if it were me, I'd leave them just like they are.

To me, they would look like replaced mirrors that have not been painted yet.

What you could do is get mirror covers that are black - the good leather ones !

I have those on my black Vette and they look excellent!

That way it is not permanent

Thanks,Matt

I'd stay with the blue too. On some vehicles the cheap model gets black mirrors and the higher optioned one get body color. That was my first thought when I read the post.
