Confession: Trying to show off on a date, I gunned it, missed 3rd and hit... 1st. I know that pretty much makes me the worse driver ever, but it happened.
Question: I've heard a forced over-rev can cause bend rods. However, it seems as though I've suffered no adverse affects from my poor driving. Should I have my mechanic tear into the engine to be sure? I'm just not sure what all I might have done or if I'd even notice if something was wrong since I'm a new Corvette owner.

The only thing I might be worried about is the muffler flange bearing, You might have it checked out by your mechanic, Last thing you want to happen is that bearing freezing up on you.
Tell you the truth if the cars runs okay has good oil pressure and isnt knocking I would just drive it. These engines are tough and one mis cue shouldnt screw it up to bad. And dont do that again

Yeap, plus next time you might run into the wall or crash onto somebody else in the street.
I have never done that shift, but i have done the going into reverse a couple of times, hoping you didnt do any damage, sending you good wishes
very nice indeed

Thanks,

18,000 miles.
You broke everything, I'm sure.
But really, go have the encabulator checked out at the least. And next time use a short shifter with some tough springs. Should prevent newbish stuff like this.

The rev-limiter is your friend. You can't over-rev the engine.
Yes you can. You can mechanically over-rev.
The rev-limiter only stops you from over-revving with your peddle, but if you down shift to a gear that would put the engine beyond the rev-limiter and let off the clutch, you'll mechanically over-rev and force the engine to a higher RPM.

Encabulator? Muffler Flange Bearing? I guess I deserved that...
In my defense though, before my first Corvette I had a '69 Chevelle SS that I built from the ground up, and I NEVER missed a gear in THAT Chevy. The only thing I've truly come to hate on the Corvette is that damn shifter. Not really all it's fault I understand, but that thing is bogus.
