Default Hood liners really needed?

I am sure this has been asked but here it goes anyways. Do you really need the hood liner for any other reason than in case of a fire? Guys who have taken it off, please post pics and your observations. I have seen a lot of great custom work in this area which is why Im asking

I drove mine for a long time with out one, I ended getting one just because it looked finished with it, I have read that it is for fire safety, Something about if you have an engine fire it will help smother the fire...

Do you "have" to have one? No.

I would say that almost if not all of the aftermarket hoods run without the hood liner. It is not a necessity, IMO.

It is a little noiser, but not needed. Ditch it. Its ugly as hell. You will need it painted once removed tjough as it will have over spray underneath.

Of course they are. Where would you put your C5 Decal without one?

"Research was conducted by Biokinetics and Associates to investigate the use of fire safety
technologies in certain model year vehicles. That survey identified the use of underhood insulation
as a potential fire preventative feature. It was speculated that
heat from an underhood fire would melt the mounting hardware supporting the underhood
insulation, allowing it to descend onto the engine and reduce the oxygen supplied to the fire.
Another scenario was that these insulation materials might act to delay the time that the fire burns
through the upper surface of the engine compartment. Such a delay could act to extend the
survivability time of the occupant compartment."

"Given that fire resistant underhood insulating liners were identified amongst the small sample of
vehicles examined, the possibility of the liners acting to retard engine compartment fire is
plausible . However, the effectiveness of such a system can not be determined strictly from the
component tests that were performed."

As a retired firefighter of 30 years, I believe there were a few under hood automobile fires we responded on
that were saved by the liner, of course, not all.

Also as a retired firefighter, I don't use one.

No, you don't have to run one on the car. I never had one on my Motor City Mold hood and no damage was done.

However, if you look behind the insulator, your hood may not be finished very well - I know mine is not.
