I need to change my battery on my 2000. Anything I should know.
Do I need to reset anything. Or should I take it somewhere to get it done.
Thanks Keith

Nothing major you need to do.... However...
Make sure your safety inspection is not due this or next month. Replacing your battery resets all your codes. You car will need driving miles to reset all the computer codes so it will pass inspection.
Make sure your new battery is tight in there. I thought my new battery was tight but it worked loose and It "clunked" around in there for a month. I thought it was a suspension issue... I put some foam tape under the corners of the battery to help hold it in place. GM designed the battery tray to be smooth plactic. Not the best design for this application.
Torque the fittings before securing the battery with the hold down. Positive is 16 Nm and Negative 15 Nm. Then secure the battery torque hold down bolt to 18 Nm.
Buy a battery with a minimum of 120 RC (reserve capacity) specification.
...Or you can go to the local dealer and give them $350 for a 36 month battery and maybe a wash. Let them give you an estimate for whatever else the car needs, like wipers, some air in the tires and fluid top off. Shouldn't be more than another grand or two.

Always diconnect the negative terminal first, I doubt you will loose anything but your radio stations. BUT if you have your radio in the "Locked" configuration & and you take out your battery you may loose the radio's function for good.
It's alway a good idea to get one of those little 12 volt battery adaptors from almost any NAPA or other parts store, fit a smoke alarm 12 volt battery to it and plug it into your cigarette lighter. Or just unlock your radio. They are so cheap it not worth not having one in your console, shop or tool box.
PS: you can get a mat that absorbs battery acid if you get a broken battery case. The mats are very cheap and are about a 14" thick and go under the battery before you put the new one in.
