Default Rocker arm failure

A friend of mine has a 2002 C5 and he recently went to change his oil and found small metal pieces in the drain pan. After a little reseach he found out one of the rocker arm bearings failed. My question is knowing this is fairly common with older LS1's what should he do to ensure a good repair? Just change the oil, replace all the rockers, what else?

He has a new set of the replacement rockers. GM now uses the newer style rockers for all replacements. But his main concern was how to clean the motor to make sure there were no little pieces of rocker arm bearings thru out the engine to make sure a little piece does not find its way to an oil galley or some place it could harm the engine.

There's a conversion to replace those bearings with units that use a c-clip on the end to ensure they don't come apart. The problem of the bearings coming out is a fairly common and known issue.
