Convertible Cleaning
I have used the raggtopp cleaner/protectatnt kit.
Clean top and WAIT for it to dry! At least over night. I give it 24 hrs.
Protect the painted finish from the protectant.
It's easy to mask off the glass and drape out some old sheets to protect the finish.

Bad news? Those light colored tan ones can be difficult to get that "cleaned" look.
Just depends on how bad the person or persons prior to you allowed it to get. They are supposed to be cleaned and protected with Raggtop. If they haven't been then you may never be able to get it completely clean. Those light colored cloth convertible tops are unforgiving if they aren't kept up.
To apply the protectant wash and apply the cleaner to the top. Let it soak for 15 minutes or so, re-apply the spray cleaner and brush that in, if you have an spots just give them an extra squirt and let it soak and more brushing. You're probably washing the car too so finish and rinse the top good.
Let it thoroughly dry and apply the protectant. To prep for protectant and make the job go easily without getting any over spray on the finish, but two .7 mil plastic drop cloths at home center (cheapest you can get). Spread one out over the hood and up the top, open the top to the vertical position and pull the drop cloth back to the window rear edge. Ease the top down and just let it lay there. Pull out the second one and cover the rear of the vehicle up to the rear of the top. Lift the top back to vertical only this time take the rear end up and slip the drop cloth underneath up to the rear edge of the window. Lay the top back down. Using painters tape, tape off the side window weatherstrip and I use some paper and tape, tape off the rear window. Run the tape around the edge of the window first then put the paper in and seal it off.
Apply the protectant. The car is sealed so it won't get on the finish. I do this about every six months but mine is a daily driver and sits outside during the daytime.
