CorvetteMods1 Interior Install
So without further delay, here's the before and after pics with install photos to show you guys how easy it is!
Before:

Install:

The shift boot above came with the metal frame. The instructions goes into the removal of the wire frame from the original black boot but this step is unnecessary!

You can use a tool like the one above to pop the staples out from the plastic piece, but it's actually much easier to just pull them out by yanking on the leather. The staples won't go through the leather if you pry them apart slowly.

I used a hotglue gun to adhere the new leather boot to the plastic piece. One thing I regret doing was trimming the bottom of the boot. The instructions said I didn't need to, but it seemed to get in the way of the connecting prongs. So I just threw caution to the wind and did it anyway.

The prong is pictured above

BUT, here's the problem with trimming the boot! (above)
So back to the drawing board. I had to pull the leather from the hotglue and reapply it while pulling the boot down lower on the plastic piece. Here is the result:

At first I thought that little hole wouldn't be noticed once placed in the car. IT DEFINITELY WAS. Reapplying the boot was necessary for a complete, professional look.

Putting the traction control strip in was the biggest pain in the a$$ ever!

Final thoughts:
This mod was a blast to install. It was a lot of fun and didn't take very long at all. If I recall it took about 2 hours to complete and, as I mentioned, I had to redo some stuff.
If I could do it all over again, I would have taken the advice of others and left the leather out in the sun before stretching it over the center console. The heat would have made the leather more pliable and easier to stretch. On top of this, it allows a more snug install. Not taking this step didn't really have any negative effect on my final outcome. It just could be a tiny bit more snug. I can always go back and redo it in 15 minutes--so no biggie. The leather stretches after install and baking in the Florida heat.
Fantastic product. Looks excellent, and brings new life to my daily work commute. I'd highly recommend this mod to everyone--even those of you who don't know how to spin a wrench.

My car came stock with one that got ripped over the years right on the crossed flag logo. It eventually got so bad that it started to scratch and irritate my arm!
But the foam padding and arm rest cover are pretty easy to install and definitely worth the effort!

By the way, that color combo looks GREAT in your car. Really breaks up all the black with that bright red

Congrats on the new COOL look

If anyone else is interested in this leather conversion, the console and shift boots are currently on sale!

Edit: I see now, it appears you didn't pull it down far enough as it seems bunched up to me.
Not trying to be a wiseguy, I really like what you did. just having conversation is all.
As an FYI to others I used double sided tape to secure it on. Worked great. Thought I would throw that out.

I have a hurst short throw and that may make the leather look bunched. I believe the boot was designed to fit the standard length shifter. So I think a combination of things are at play here.
I also was afraid to pull the leather down further because I didn't think it would snap into place properly. The thicknesses between the two leathers felt slightly different which was why I even bothered to cut around the edges when attaching it. I shouldn't have done that in retrospect, and this is why I warned others not to do it. I should have also payed more attention to how the stock boot adhered to the plastic but once it was separated I didn't think to check back with the pics in the camera and sort of made it up as I went along. I knew whatever I did could be undone so no real harm.
But yes, I too would prefer the boot was a little shorter. I may mess with it in a while but for now I'm enjoying it as is.
Another worthy note of warning: BE CAREFUL with that plastic piece...Mine snapped but I was able to repair it with the hotglue gun and double-sided tape. Another forum member told me they now make more durable, metal ones for those of you who broke it beyond repair.

I like what you did. Now i'm going to have to get me a new armrest cover and that other ring you have. it looks good.

Nice write up. Thanks for taking the time to post this information and sharing your work.
