I already know about the b&m ripper and the kirban, but the hurst is know out and i have heard some bad things about the hurst. Can anybody tell me if they any of these and why there are some bad things about the hurst?
Why don't you tell us what bad things you have heard about the Hurst, that isn't installer error? I have one and I went from hitting the 2-3 shift (speed shifting) 40% of the time to now hitting it 100% about 30-40 times now! It is very solid and precise and there is no noise or vibration! It is fantastic!! :smash: :smash:
If you order the Hurst, be prepared to wait, wait, wait ,wait
I ordered form Exit 28 and have been waiting six weeks. Every time I call I am told "Hurst is ready to ship them, it should be there in two weeks" I don't want to flame Exit 28, but a honest answer would be nice. Something like "We don't have a clue when it will arrive, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait" :D

I dunno ... the B&M Ripper rocks. If you should decide to go with the Hurst, do not use the stops because they'll only cause problems should you not have them perfectly adjusted.
Here's another solid vote for the B&M Ripper. Had it in my 99. LOVED IT!! Nearly the best mod on the car. Tomorrow it's going into my 02 Z06. Very very well made. Solid can't miss shifts. Precise. Get one. :chevy

Not true! Just make sure you tighten them properly that is all, human error leads to problems everywhere!

Racer44...
We all know you're pushin' sales of the Hurst and that's fine and dandy but it doesn't change the fact that those stops more often than not cause problems. The best advise is to remore them prior to the shifter install.:seeya

Sorry, I really don't care what shifter people buy, I just want the people to get the right facts, and your comments are not right. They can remove the stops if they want, but the problem that people have had with the stops are not because they did not adjust them precisely it is because they were not tightened properly. If you use locktight or a lock nut, you won't have problems. And yes I am using the adjuster nuts in mine and it works perfectly.

:rolleyes:Your posting history on the Hurst would have most believe otherwise.
If you use locktight or a lock nut [on the stops], you won't have problems.
:confused:Why take any risk with the stops being maladjusted? They serve no functional purpose in the C5 application.
Fellow Vetters considering this mod may wish to do yourself (and your syncros) a favor by not installing the stops!:smash:
Whats you problem vetter, your giving props for the ripper, I am sticking up for the Hurst. If people want to take out the stops, then that is cool. All I was doing was correcting your info that was wrong. If I want to post about how good the Hurst is when their is a thread asking for opinions I am going to, just like your rants about the Ripper. One thing is for sure, they all beat the stock POS! Oh, to all the Hurst shifter guys, the stops do their job, I will be keeping them mine in! If you shift hard lots your syncros stand a better chance of screwing up with out the stops.
I will play devil's advocate, The ripper had stops when it came out as an added safety measure just like the hurst has. You can say there not needed because of the internal stops, but if you shift to hard you can hurt parts in the trans. I think BM stoped inclueding them because of poor install by owners. I have a BM in my car and a hurst sitting here in the box, thay look to be comparable. The stops are an added safty if installed properly. Vetter I understand brand loyalty but the truth doesen't and shulden't hurt. Ric

I guess you haven't read of the numerous Vetters that have suffered transmission problems due to maladjusted stops; warranty will not cover such a problem if determined that it were caused by maladjusted stops on an aftermarket shifter. Thus my suggestion that the risks of using stops seem to outweigh any "benefit" that few have purported may exist.
VetterMan
PS: Powershifer--truth is, you weren't playing devil's advocate, you were merely stating such to disguise your forthcoming biased assertion and/or to bandwagon with racer44. Who did you think you'd kid...you gettin' kickbacks from Hurst sales too? Btw, a spell checker should be on your short list. Cheers, and next time play fair.;)

First and foremost  Second, could you please post all these threads for us to read, because I have found a few myself and they all had either the stock shifter (bent forks and ruined syncros) and a couple even had rippers in them. Hey, you brought it up. Looking forward to seeing the posts that state Hurst adjustor stops cause transmission failures.
Vetter, My spelling my not be up to your standards, what you understand about high performance cars and there mod's are not up to mine, so were even.;) Ric

Hey buddy...I didn't point fingers at any manufactures for anything; just posted that others have experienced problems with aftermarket shifter stops and that since they serve little real benefit to most C5'ers some may wish to consider not using them.
PS: Why don't you say what you mean and mean what you say--the first time? Seems as though you modify your posts mighty frequently for that to be the case. If you should feel the need to discuss this any further take it offline. No need to subject others to your denial. Thanks.

As long as you're convinced Mr. I shift my M12 without lifting off the accelerator because I can man. You'll probably be crying to the General when your transmission is cashed begging for warranty.
