Did the Power Tour several years in a row, had to sunscreen up like crazy.
At the place on the center console panel (big piece that has surround around radio and HVAC, and runs all the way back in the center of the car) where my right lower leg touched it the finish has come off. Looks almost like the top layer of covering has come away in a spot 2" or 3" across.
A combination of the sunscreen chemical and my washing attempts I guess.
So I want to take it out and refinish the whole thing with something.
Anyone done that? What did you use? Happy with the results?
Going to see what a new one is but expect it to be a lot.
You can paint it (above) or get a new custom finish like hydrocarbon or even real carbon fiber laminate.
My question is for those who have already peformed this mod, whether or not the new finish is more durable than the OEM finish in case more sunscreen, leg sweat, etc. occurs after the mod.
I think refinishing the console is terrific and the people who have done it have really made some beautiful pieces.
My problem is where it meets the dash. The two pieces look like they came from two different cars. There's little or no integration between the two.
Does anyone have a console treatment that's carried over to the dash?
You can order a custom DD bezel that is OEM texture and will look like the original piece, or you could order another OEM bezel, however the wear and tear will probably occur again.
Some owners like the contrast, however I like something a little more subtle. I've seen some nice (real) carbon fiber laminate bezels as well as some black leather bezels that match up pretty well with the OEM dashboard.
The best one's I've seen are the leather ones from Caravaggio, but even there, there's a clear difference in the two. The nice, new Caravaggio is thicker than the cheap Chevrolet interior.
But for $2000, Caravaggio can fix that too.
