Default Few random possible issues?

Got new exhaust today (whoop!) b&b bullets....love them! but i noticed driving home that my temperature seemed higher than usual. i normally run at around 210* and today driving around it was bouncing around between 215-220* up to 230*. i've heard that these cars burn oil and i have noticed an odd smell when i get out of the car in my garage most of the time, but it almost smells like some sort of nasty burning plastic smell. also...could be totally irrelevent but i hear something clanking around in the bank, guessing my exhaust guy left something a bit loose. is the temperature thing just oil burning and is this normal? oil was changed right before i bought the car last month and i've put about 700 miles on it, car says 86% oil life remaining.

Tried to find out what model car you have & any add ons/mods.
Assuming you own a Z? What year?
It's not in your profile, other than your occupation. How long did it take you to recieve that status?

Electrical smell could be from rerouting of wires or not wrapping them properly, if you have long tube headers.??

The BB Bullets are larger in diameter than stock pipes. They could be rubbing along too close to the sides of the rear differential or out to far & too close to the stainless shields.

Higher temps would not be contributed to the c/backs.
Look for leaves, grass, plastic bags etc up under on the front of the radiator. Make sure the anti freeze fluid is @ it's proper level mark @ the hot/cold marking.

Burning of oil was a problem with the 01 Z LS/6 motors. GM, took care of that problem when the cars were still under warranty. Check oil d/stick.
Good luck & enjoy your car.

its an 03 z06. it's all stock except for wheels and the catback. yeah that makes sense that its the exhaust banging around...but i have no idea about the smell and the temperature. is it normal for it to bounce around a bit? could it be a thermostat issue? theres nothing blocking the radiator i saw it lifted up and all looked fine. i'll go check the anti freeze and oil level though. is it normal to see a bit of smoke come out from the dip stick slot thing? cuz that's happened to me in the past and i've heard others often see this.

I too have an 03 Z & I've never had smoke coming out my dip stick tube.
Is there a catch can installed on your motor?
Have you checked the pcv valve. The rubber lines are also known to crack & become brittle over time.

I have however had plenty of different things blocking the radiator.
Most summer seasons, I clean this area 3 times.
I doubt that the thermostat went bad. Probably just low on fluid.
Sure your not smelling burning clutch? Thats got a pretty bad smell to it.

The smell is probably greases burning off your newly installed exhaust.

The smell is kinda normal. If you don't have a catch can, it's highly likely you're getting oil in your intake and its getting burned in the combustion chamber. As for the rise in temp, did you hear the fans turn on? If now, you may have an issue there. If they did come on, then I'd get the car tuned and have the fans turned on earlier. 205-210 is normal, but 230 is getting up there.

it was running again at 210-215 like normal last night....and now i haven't seen it go over 220. oil looks fine, if anything slightly lower than last time i checked it. a catch can might be a good idea. when i pull out the dipstick immediately after driving, theres always a small puff of smoke that comes out, and the center of the dip stick looks almost charred.

blown head gasket sometimes smells like somethings burning.

sounds like the continuation of the other problems you have been having.

When you say temps, are you talking oil temps or coolant temps?

Also, is it possible that the temps are reading higher because you're keeping the rpm's higher in order to enjoy the sound of your new exhaust? I notice that when I drive like a normal person, my oil temps stay around 198-200. When I get a little spirited (keeping the rpms above 2500), they are usually 1-15 degrees higher when I park my car.

Just saying, if nothing physical has changed but the exhaust, it's possible that your driving style has been slightly altered. I know after I put on my fast 90/90 & LG lt's, I couldn't keep my foot out of it for a couple weeks.

yeah you absolutely could be right lol i drove normal today and it read 210* all day. yesterday driving a little more..."spirited" it was reading about 10-15* higher at times. just curious about the smell now. its tough to describe but i smell it when the car is at normal temperature, and its not very strong at all i usually don't notice until its parked in my garage. can't tell in particular where its coming from, but it doesn't smell anything like burnt oil or any fluid i can recognize. almost like a plastic smell or something.

lol once again don't care what you think...it would be obvious it it were a head gasket. i have 2 head gaskets btw. if you think its a head gasket, i think your differential is going to explode today.

he said he smells a burning smell and you immediately jump to a blown head gasket, based on what?! are you one of those people that changed your own oil once... and now believe youre ASE certified?
