Default Windshield ordeal

So I figured I would let everyone in on my z06 windshield replacement saga. I've had a crack in m glass for years now but with as little as it's driven, I just figured there were better things to work on. Well the time finally came and I got a good quote fom a national company.
After scheduling with the 1800# I got a request for my VIN as they said the moldings required were dealer specific. Fine, no problems and my appointment was set. Two days later and one hour before my appointment I receive a call from the cell rep stating the moldings, from the dealer, would add $825 to the bill. The top molding alone was quoted at more than $500 bucks!
In my last moment of calm I drove to the installer as scheduled for an explanation. After a few passes looking over the car the tech was great and confirmed the call rep's were insane. In fact he said he had the same molding inside! The appointment was rescheduled for the next day once more as they already sent the glass back.
Pick up two days later and I was told the glass had a bubble which kept it from sealing and the glass leaked. Fortunately I didn't leave the lot before they found the leak. Great luck it was raining as otherwise the car is a garage queen and my first car wash would have given me a heart attack. Next day, new glass from same manufacturer wouldnt fit in the car at all, what the hell!
Finally the local tech calls and offers to buy the glass from GM directly at their cost just to keep me happy. Now the glass is on order until Tuesday but I'm hopeful this glass will work. At least the weather in my neck of the woods is horrible so they can keep the car at the shop.
Talk about an ordeal, but I never expected GM class for a cheap price. Still won't wish this fiasco on any other members
Thanks for listening to the rant

So what was the actual total cost of replacement? Did you receive the thinner, Z06 specific windshield? I used Safelite on my other cars and they were super cheap...always wondered what my Z windshield would cost...

Total is supposed to be $389, not the thinner Z06 original glass as I originally ordered the cheaper glass as well. GM price they said was $478 for the glass so they are eating quite a bit on this order but they really don't have a choice. Fingers crossed!

So they are not installing an original winshield in your Z?

It's good to see another Fort Wayne Vette owner on here! I will see you around town.

Guess I'll be getting that little rock chip repaired ASAP so I won't have to deal with the headache of replacement.

Be glad you wheren't trying to get the rear window replaced. GM price for glass and seals in 2005 was about $3500.00

Insurance company managed to "negotiate" an $1800 deal, after taking 2 weeks to locate an OEM rear windshield.

Updated drama to new fiasco. The glass, from GM came in cracked and scratched! Chalk up another 3-5 days for GM glass take two. I am starting to lose count of glass ordered and problems with each.
If I was reading this I wouldn't believe it at first. What the hell? It's getting personal soon though as car shows are scheduled for the next 2 weekends. Don't mess with the car show MoJo!
