Another sway bar thread (c6 z06)
So upon doing some research, and reading up on multiple threads, upgrading the sway bars is easily one of the simplest, yet most effective mod you can do for ride quality. My vette is 2001 with 90K miles on the basic FE1 suspension. Now to be fair, I never really had a problem with this suspension. I don't really drive my car all that hard and seldom carve out a corner but my plastic end links were worn and looking like hell so it was time for a change. With the price of upgrading to metal end links I figured I would just do the links and sways for basically the same price. I found a member in the c6 section (cfi_luz) who was selling his sways with end links off of his Z with low miles for a very, very decent price. I was a little hesitant at first because of what I read about the C6 Z sways being a little overkill unless your running a 300+ series tire out back. I'm running RUFF rims (9.5 width/ 19") with a 10mm spacer and stock size tires (275).After some thought I decided to go for it...what was the worst that can happen? If I didn't like them I could just sell them again....anyways, I put them on last night and the size difference from the stock FE1 to the C6 Z is almost ridiculous! I swap them out at my GF's place and took the highway home which is pretty much a straight line. When I got to my exit I down shifted and put the car in the power band, slowing down slightly. I maintained a decent exist speed on the corner which snakes left, then a tight right...I started getting goose bumps and felt like lifting off the gas, but I pressed forward. As I hit the apex at speed I couldn't believe how the car stuck to the road. It stayed virtually flat with no body role, no back end skipping, sliding, or any other anomalies. Mind you it was just one corner and I plan on taking a few more when the weather clears up to see just how well they really are, but first impression is WOW, definitely a good move on my part. Sorry for the long story, just wanted to share
Change the shocks too I did and it made a world of difference
Went from FE1 stock suspension, shocks, and plastic end links to C5 Z06 shocks, C5 Z51 sway and metal end links and noticed a world of difference. Did the shocks first. The C5 Z06 shocks are 1/2" to 3/4" thicker than the stock ones. The sways are thicker too. Didn't want to go w/C6 Z06 shocks and sways as I felt it was overkill. Like the change.
98 vert is a DD and street car only.
Shocks made the most difference. Sways kept the car tighter on turns.
