powerducts can cause turbulance issues due to MAF relocation which can lead to the crappy performance and check engine light, also the longtubes if you are running a catless midpipe can also throw the engine code, did you have a tune done? I am very sure if you get a tune it will correct everything and your car will run great.

A tune is always the best answer, but a good 30 mile drive over 55mph might help somewhat.

With the VARARAM alone, there are ways to get the car to adjust with that alone. With LTs and HF cats, the best way to MAX out the power those will provide is a tune. Once you get it tuned out, the car will be a much more powerful ride!

I have the vararam and a powerduct on my Z. I had codes too. What I ended up doing is calling Haltech and getting the honeycomb. It installs after the CIA and right in front of the mass air flow sensor. It smoothes out the turbulent air from the CIA. Disconnect the negative post on the battery install the honeycomb connect the battery back up. Start the car and let it idle for a few minutes and then drive the car normally at first so the computor could learn the changes. clear the codes before the install of course and you should be in business. My car was giving left and right bank lean conditions before the install. I haven't seen it since. ( about 2k miles ) The part is about 50 bucks and is pretty easy to install. Don't do like I did and go to the dealer first. I got robbed and they didn't fix the problem.

I put the same set up on my car and had surging as well after a tune. Tuner told me the rt o2 sensor was bad so i replaced it and same thing. Got the Halltech honeycomb and 95 percent of the surge is gone but still have it alittle but its driveable now and really is not noticeable, before the honeycomb i didnt even want to drive it was so bad. My best advise is get the honeycomb for 50 before the tune and see how that works.

I would give a call/pm to one of the tune guys and see if they can hook you up with a mail order tune first. ECS or RPM.
I have a very well sealed Vararam CAI, Power Duct, and the Haltech honeycomb and still get the lean codes but I'm going to send my ECM in for the tune. I still have a small amount of surging but is 90% better than what it was without the Power Duct.

Your fuel trims are off with the new intake setup. You need a tune.

I'm so confused with this surging stuff.

Halltech says their honeycomb insert will fix it.

Tons of members here say the honeycomb insert fixed theirs.

People in this thread say the car needs a tune?

...so which is it? I installed a Halltech Venom 2 intake that relocated the MAF and am having slight surging. Appears to run ok up top, best I can tell, but it does seem to be surging.

My car has the OEM 1/16" design honeycomb insert in the MAF. I'm considering getting the Halltech one, but not convinced it will fix the issues. I don't know what to do or who to believe.
