I ordered the PAL set up(nav) and am wondering if I should put the IPod in the console or rear storage compartment. I am not familiar with iPods so could you tell me if I have to physically turn the iPod on or does it turn on when I select the proper XM mode? Thanks a lot. Mike

I leave mine connected in the glove box. Mine comes on with my kenwood stereo
I'm also considering a Kenwood head unit and the stereo installer I spoke with also suggested the glovebox because the Kenwood touch screen duplicates the controls.
Does your headunit also power up the IPOD, meaning it's not running on battery power when playing? Pretty cool if you can leave it in the glovebox and it automatically turns on/off.
Another advantage of the Kenwood head unit is that since I drive a vert, the power antenna only goes up if I listen to the radio. If listening to the IPOD or CDs, the antenna stays down.
To the OP, if you consider upgrading to an IPhone, you may want to wire it through the center console.
My connector comes out through the ash tray because I have to change tracks, etc. through the iPod itself. It is super easy to route the cabling that way and the door conceals the cable when parked. When I upgrade the head-unit from factory to aftermarket and don't have to change tracks from the iPod, I'll probably keep it in the glove box to avoid the heat.

I installed the Anetnna Bypass because I usually listen to CDs and rarely listen to the radio. Also I don't have to remember to turn off the music when I put my care under the lift.

That sounds like a cool option. I never listen to the radio either. How did you do the bypass? Do you need a special part?
My iPhone4 gets extremely warm and has overheated (it displays a too hot message and stops playing until cooled) while keeping it in the center console. Hence why I've been checking out these threads. Just a warning to other iPhone owners. From my experience it doesn't happen often but the phone pretty much always gets extremely hot.

Same here, I have a Pioneer, At first I put it in the center console But the heat was too much then moved it to the glove box, . I can control it with my Pioneer 920.
I triple-insulated the wife's cabin and have no heat issues in there. Here's where I placed her iPod. It's integrated to the Kenwood system I installed.

That's the way we have it and no issues at all. We never touch it as mentioned since the Kenwood deck controls it.
