I want to mount a small fire extinguisher in my coupe but not sure where exactly to mount it. I was thinking about the raised area that divides the rear storage and the driver/passenger area. Is there anything that runs in there that I need to be aware of?
I stuck mine there, but it's still very difficult to get in an emergency. I know some mount it in front of the passenger seat on the floor, but again it's not easy to get if you are strapped in a 4 or 5 point harness and on fire. I guess I really should move it to the floor directly in front of my drivers seat. Maybe that's the best spot afterall. Definately food for thought.

Gas tanks!! Use a Brey-Krause mount, you can mount it to the passenger or drivers seat.
I've got mine mounted on the harness bar, which was not recommended by the manufacturer. I was cautioned about putting it "head high" because of the danger of it coming loose in a crash. I only show my car, so I'm not really concerned about the placement.
I'd mount it on the floor in front of the drivers seat.
I used to have it mounted in front of the passenger seat, because I thought it would be in my way on the driver side. I mounted on the drivers side for easier access about 9 months ago and it has never been in the way.
For those of you who don't race or autocross, is the Fire Extinguisher pretty much for show only? If not, can you mount it in the trunk/cargo area?
I know it's probably a good idea to carry one anyway, however if I'm not racing, is it necessary to mount it in the cabin?
I don't race but I do have a fire extinguisher and first aid kit in my car. You never know.... A member here on the forum was getting his car ready for a show and got distracted by a phone call while cleaning his engine compartment. A micro fiber towel fell down on the header pipe and he didn't know it was there untill a few miles down the road and smoke. The damage was kept to just the hood liner and fuel rail, without the extinguisher it could have been a total loss. I went out the following week and ordered the mount and extinguisher. I mounted it so it was handy, if needed I could just hit the latches and jump out of the car ready to use. Having to open the trunk and retreive it may be wasted time in an emergency. Bill

All good points!
I need to put a similar kit together for our family SUV. We haven't taken any long trips lately, however still a good idea to have it ready!
Mine is also mounted in a BREY-KRAUSE bracket...which I bought off EBAY for $35, including a brand new powder fire extinguisher. One of my better "deals". It now contains a Halon type extinguisher...

you want it as handy as quickly as possible. the floor (either side) is ideal with the driver's side being a bit more favorable (from an ease of access point of view) in my opinion

Any recommended vendors/shops for this Brey-Krause mount and Amerex brand fire extinguisher? I would like to get this set up and mount it on the driver's side. Is there a specific type of extinguisher/size for autos?
It looks like the plastic seat track covers fit, however I guess the seat movement going forward would be limited. That's why I'm thinking driver's side because I keep that the same (for me) and the seat doesn't need to be moved as often.
