Is it just me, or do the Z06s seem to ride like trucks?
I was in a showroom today, looking at a SWEET electron blue 02 Z06. I walked around the car a couple times with thoughts of how much I NEED one of these in my driveway. Then after a few minutes.. as I'm looking I notice there is really something different about it's ride height compared to a normal C5. The gap between the tire and wheel well seemed HUGE!
Is it just because I'm so used to looking at mine, or is there really a difference?? Anyone else noticed this?
I wouldn't say they are slightly too high, I would say they are like fricking monster trucks! When I got my Z06 from the dealership, I rushed home to lower it down because, believe it or not, I was actually a little embarrased at how high it sat! Now I am as proud as punch and I do detect a slight smiling grin on the front of my car! :D :D
Re: Z06 Ride height?!..WHY SO HIGH?? (PHAT CHANCE)
When on the dealer lot last July, I noticed just what you are talking about. The freshly delivered Z looked like a 4X4.
When mine was delivered in September it was very tall. Over a couple of months it seemed to lose about a half inch as the shocks and suspension broke in. Having lowered it to the bushings it is simply perfect.
What you see on the lot isn't necessarily what you wind up with... you have a lot of control on the final product.
You guys must have excellent roads where you live. My Z is still sitting at stock monster truck height and it rubs the road all the time! If there is a fat, dead possum in the road it will not pass over it without hitting. It rubs the air dam leaving my driveway and it is totally level with curb ramps leading to the street. It rubs the air dams when it hits dips in the road. It scrapes the front frame rails on steep parking lot entrances. I can't imagine life an inch lower. I'd have to put my wallet in my front pocket to keep it from being ground off by the asphalt.
The tire/well gap is mostly from the lower profile tires on the Z.
This is true, and there are government mandated heights on headlights. I don't know if this is a factor or not, but I suspect GM knows they sit too high, that's why they made it so easy to lower them.
We get mad a GM for what the cars don't have, but we forget the laws and internal guidelines they have to work within on mass produced automobiles that are going to wind up in the hands of owners with widely varying capabilities.
Sure, there are a few tricks- IF you are expecting objects and/or have time and space to react. That's not the point.
The lower any car is, the more susceptible it is to damage. No way around that.
Yea and a world war 3 could break out anyday too. With my homemade rocker protectors and undercarriage rollers, my underside is totally protected, except for running over refrigerators etc. on the highway! Your too paranoid! Don't let "maybe's" dictate your life.
Yep. I can't stand the stock height either. I don't go off-roading and driving in the mud more than three of four times a week, so the lowered look works fine for me! :D :jester

 You've missed the point again, and your replies are somewhat offensive. :seeya
It is in fact the wheel/tire combo. Just put them on my coupe yesterday and now its a 4x4. I want to lower, but also afraid of just hitting more things and scraping. Where can I get these rocker protectors?
