Possible dead Z
Hey all,
I am a new member of the forums, but a long time owner and lover of Corvettes. I have a 2002 Z06 with 97,XXX miles. I had an unexpected turn of events and was hoping someone might be able to give me more insight into the situation, along with my options.
I was driving down the highway at about 60-65 mph when I noticed a slight noise coming from my engine. When I put the car in neutral, the sound/lag would stop, but it would continue again once I put it in gear. I was able to coast off the highway into a parking lot (the engine shut off at some point in the process). I tried to start the car in the parking lot. It would try to turn over, but not turn on. When I finally got it to turn on, a horrible popping noise came from the engine. I had the car towed home and taken in for a brief overview. They found water in the engine and could not get the engine to start.
I'm just a little confused by it. The car has always been taken care of, never abused. The oil level was normal and no codes or warnings appeared before the incident.
I'm sorry if I didn't give enough information. Can anyone tell me what my options might be?

Classic answer is check the valvesprings for a broken one. Don't start or try and run it...get it checked. If your lucky it'll be broken spring with no valve to piston contact and a new one puts you back on the road.

Broken valve spring will not let water in the motor. My guess is bad head gasket. I would start by pulling the plugs and seeing if you have water in a cylinder. Then a compression check. Something going to show up.
