My car is titled a 2002, but has the 50th symbol in the gauge cluster. I thought only the 2003's came in this trim level.
is this common???
If the 50th symbol is only on the gauge cluster and no where else, then you can be sure that the cluster was replaced with a used one from an '03. On 03's, the symbol is on the front and rear emblems also and there were no 02's with it.

If your car is an o2 someone changed the dash, If this is the case you have another issue, Mileage, If someone changed the dash you have no clue what the miles are on yout car, Also if it is a 50th I believe the front emblem will say 50th also.
Here in Massachusetts if the dealer changes the Cluster, he is required to put a sticker on the driver's door jamb saying so. (I think) even if the correct mileage is on the new cluster ... (most usually when the car is somewhat new)
but then again - it's simple to change the cluster by most anyone - either to get a new cluster or get new mileage ... or both
new cars (not 2002 ...) are now different, mileage is stored in the main computer (?) and not the cluster
did you try car fax or even a GM dealer's general records ?
or just be happy ...

The mileage will follow the cluster. I bought a spare cluster that I was going to modify and then install in my car; the mileage did not remain the same when I installed the spare cluster, it indicated the mileage of the spare cluster.
My cars seller & a GM dealer told me that they are able to transfer the data from the original cluster to a replacement one when the need arises. I'm going to trust the mileage shown at this point.

That sounds right. I remember reading that if you had to change you gauge cluster, a GM dealer could transfer the original mileage from the old cluster to the replacement cluster.

...the problem is what if you want to show a lower mileage when it came time to sell and did not convert the data? The OP may have an 02 with higher mileage after the original owner swapped in a low mileage instrument cluster from a 50th anniversary garage queen involved in an accident. I know many Corvette parts shops that sell these parts after obtaining the salvage title.
