The problem did start only after the sensors were replaced, but not immediately. When the tires were changed and new sensors put in, one sensor was transmitting zero pressure, with the tire at 35, the others seemed to be working OK. I ordered another sensor and while I was waiting for it and driving the car occasionally, the other 3 sensors changed to xxx on the DIC. They were reading normally immediately after installation. After the replacement sensor was put in the installer tried his scanner and magnet to "wake up" the sensors, but all I get now is xxx at each wheel and the service TPMS message when I start the car. The dealer tried his scanner, with no success.
I like Quicksilver's suggestion to try the learning process with the original, unmounted sensors. Should I put each sensor near a wheel on the car and do the magnet learn process or do I have to remove the wheels to get those sensors away from the car?
And Jistari - How did you know I've married for 30 years?

Just put the magnet on the wheel near the sensor when the system prompts for that wheel.

No need to remove your wheels with the new sensors.

Just sit in the car with the old sensors on your lap, and begin the training process with them.

I programmed my new sensors that way (inside the car) before installing them in C6 wheels.

I also tried a different set of unmounted sensors, but not dice. So I am still assuming that in my case, the receiver is the culprit

Has anyone tried to order a new receiver yet? My information is that they have been on backorder for at least 12 months.

Yes, I tried, but they are unavailable because of a component supplier problem. You would think that GM would have found a work around by now.

Nope, the car cant tell where the sensors are (thats why you have to tell it which is RF LF RR . . .) so just be within sensor range and apply magnet to each and assign it a position in the car to test.

Thats easey.

You demonstrated that in spite of your observation of a condition in which logic as you understood it was not affecting the situation, you were content to put that aspect on the back burner for the moment and still work towards a solution.

You've obviously had practice at this

My 98 works most of the time and then stops working then shut it off and restart and is fine, can I get a used one out of something else like a truck or something and do you know what year might work, my friend owns a junk yard so I would like to try finding a used one first before spending more money. Thanks
