Default Question for performance guys.

Hi everyone, I got an offer to trade my 03 svt Cobra for 01 c5Z06 and I need your opinions. I count on your expertise!
I'm going to meet the owner and see his car this Sunday. One thing that concerns me a little is that according to the owner the clutch gets stuck a little sometimes when shifting at higher rpms. Is that a common problem? What causes it and how expansive is it to fix it?

Here is the full list of mods, let me know what you think.
LG Motorsports Headers with Catted X Pipe into a stock Cat Back (includes off road pipes to remove cats)
- Headunit with Bluetooth, XM Radio built in
- C6 shift ****, C6 grey Wheels, BFG KDW Tires about 80% tread left
- Dual air intake
- Thunder Racing RapTR Cam, Air Pump Delete
- Custom Speaker Box with no sub mounted in it (setup for 8")
- full interior LED Lighting and exterior LED Marker lights, Rear tail light tints
- Black out CORVETTE Lettering Front and Rear
- Oil Catch Can on Intake Manifold, Spring Assist for rear trunk
- New TR55 Plugs and GM Hot Wires, Brand new wipers
- New ECM (old one was LOCKED for tune)
- Custom DYNO TUNE by CARTEK in Garwood, NJ (410hp 380lb-ft)
- Ipod Hook up in Glove Box, New Passenger Door Lock Module
- Fresh Coolant Service and Oil Change and Brand New Belts, 160 TSTAT
- Shorty Antenna, Brand New Center Air Dam in front of radiator

Very common... Look up the ranger clutch fluid protocol.. The clutch fluid needs to be flushed often. I flushed mine over 20 times with no luck.. Did a tick master cylinder no more sticky clutch pedal...

Thats hardly a big problem....Id play it off like it was though to the owner of the Z....I would also do the trade if I were you. I think youll really like the Vette over the stang. Lotsa Mustang transplants here!!

How difficult is the master cylinder install? I've done the fluid flush a bunch of times, still having trouble so I think my next step will be the cylinder.

To the OP - You currently have a C5 vert in addition to the SVT, right? If I were in your position I would keep the SVT and just mod the C5 up to C5Z performance levels. This way you have a more varied garage to suit you day-to-day driving moods, instead of having two cars with a similar engine and the same exact body (save for the fixed roof).

That makes your decision easier... find a Z!

...or read this thread for a very nice head-to-head comparison from an owner of both: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-z...svt-cobra.html

Thanks. I basically agree with his assessment. For me it is refinement and comfort, plus attention you get in a Z06. Since there are no tracks or decent drag strips around I'm thinking Z would be a better choice. You can enjoy a vette driving it without speeding. I'm curious though which car will be faster? 380rwtq seems a lot less then 481 in the cobra, but of course there is weight difference and aerodynamics so...
We will see!

I have owned an 03 and a 04 KB Cobra I just sold and just got back in a 01 Z. It's all in what you want. The Z is an all around car. The suspension is great and handles like it's a go cart. The power is there, but the torque will not be like your Cobra. I will always miss my Cobra but the Z is one bad car. Toss a Cam in one and it pulls very Hard up top, but again a totally different power than your current car. I say make the switch. You can always go back if you don't like it. Here's a quick in car vid of my KB Cobra, the only thing I miss is the blower whine the 2.2 made. Other then that, it was only made to go straight and too fat for the corners.

You are right I can always go back if for some reason I'm not happy with Z06. He wants to trade cars without any extra money. I own 19000 on my cobra and he has 01 z with 62000. I could always sell the z for at least 19000 i think. That way I would be able to go back without loosing any money.

Feel like i can speak on this, having just sold my Sonic blue 03 for a SW Z. Two different cars, two different purposes. As a road race guy, the Z just feels more like what I was looking for, but I still miss the cobra sometimes. As for being able to get 19 for the Z if you change your mind? Careful. Prices have been dropping, I picked mine up a year ago for 17 with 60k miles. Do your homework, drive them back to back, and be honest with what you are looking for in a car.

IMO, cant go wrong with either one.
