My wife and I went up to Tahoe yesterday since she's never seen snow before. We had to come back home today so I can take her for dialysis tomorrow. The drive was 560 miles total - 245 up there and back, plus driving around at the lake, going to the Nevada side, etc. What amazed me is that including climbing the 7000 ft. + Sierra's, the Vette got 30.4 mpg on the trip up and even with the in-town driving the average for the whole trip was 31.5. We cruised at 65-70 unless there was traffic.
Been to Tahoe once.....really beautiful spot. What did your wife think of the snow?
Being from Thailand, it's been her lifelong dream to see snow. She was very excited and really enjoyed it. She took hundreds of pictures and about a gig of video for her family back home. It was a great time to go because it was a warm day (about 60 degrees), and the roads were clear, so she got to see the snow witout all the hassles of living in snow.
It was really great to see her enjoying herself and having fun. She had surgery in January to correct what they thought was a problem with her graft. Turned out she had a tennis-ball sized mass of infectious goo in her shoulder. That goo had been building up for 3 years and was making her feel really crappy. Now that it's gone she's back to normal - I'm really happy for her.
I love the drive up 50 to Lake Tahoe. For us, it takes less than an hour to get there. It's just a bit over 60 miles for us each way.
We sometimes head up there on a whim. My C5Z has never gotten that good of mileage though. It's all uphill on the drive there, but of course you can almost coast all the way home.
