It seems that every time I think it is time to move on to a C6, I fall in love with my C5 all over again. This week, I had the wheels and tires rebalanced to sort out a vibration. I finally found it! The mechanic at this very high end shop was very impressed with the shape that the C5 was in and said that I have nothing to worry about with the car. I have had it for about 11k now and it has run flawlessly. So, like the proud father I am, I took the car home and clayed and waxed it, did the interior with the leather treatment, vacuumed the carpet and wiped down the panels. After I was done with all that, I can't get over how good the car looks. I even treated the moldings and washed the wheel wells. I think that I will have this car until the C7 comes out and if it is butt ugly, I might even have it until the C8 debuts. If I remember tomorrow I should post some pics.
I agree with you I like the C6 but the smooth lines and hidden headlights make our C5's one beautiful work of art.I almost did one of the Caddy XLR's until it was time to remove the license plate....deal cancelled.Drive on.
I have both a '99 and an '07. I love the bells and whistles in the '07 but frankly, the '99 is a much nicer car to drive. I think the main difference in "just driving" is the leg room in the C-5 has that extra four inches that's gone from the C-6.
I agree, C5 is a timeless design in every way - I often think how it is going to continue to look great years from now. I have neighbors and strangers still approach me thinking my 2000 is "new" (of course, it looks it!). I finished reading "All Corvettes are Red" over the winter and was amazed at how much time Cafaro and the design team spent refining the simplest things like the bulge over the rear fenders or the subtle concavity of the roof/rear glass. It all paid off - they created a design that will define the "newer" generation of corvettes for years to come.
Yeah, every time I get the itch for a C6 my wife reminds me that it would be much cheaper to build mine to beat a C6 than to buy one. Plus the C5 is so much more voluptuous and the lines are so much more appealing to me. So I go out, do a few mods, and the itch is gone...

Even though this is my first Corvette, I've had a number of people say nothing but nice things about it, and, they can't believe it's a 2000. The C5 will probably hold it's place in Corvete history a while.
i LOVE my 2001! i dont ever see myself traiding it in for a c6!
its crazy its like everytime i go to a gas station and fill up i always get compliments and people still think its brand new . last week one guy said. "man i wish i could afford that car! what is that car like 60 grand on a lot huh?"

The C6's (yes ALL of them!) are great cars. They ride, drive and perform better stock than many modified C5's (depending on the mods of course).
The C6 was evolutionary, not revolutionary like the C5 was at it's introduction. And, like the C5 - the C6 has evolved quite bit since it was introduced back in '05.
The headlights on the C5 suck big time - whether you like the exposed headlamps on the C6 or not, the projector lamps are fantastic compared to the halogen lights. The stock interior of the C6 is nicer than the stock interiors of the C5 and the ride is better.
I love both of my C5's and wouldn't trade them for the world, but the car has to evolve in order for it to survive. If you don't like the C6, that's fine. But you have to respect it as the standard bearer for the legendary Corvette!
My C-5 is an '03 Torch red coupe that I keep immaculate. I can't count the number of compliments I get when filling up with gas or stoppingat the 7-11 etc. I think the C-5 is timeless. I'll never get sick of mine or get rid of it. Something about prying it from my cold, dead hand!!!

Until GM makes another Z06 with the rear window like mine then I aint tradin'.... GM will never make a rear window on the Z06 again due to aerodynamic reasons. So... that means my Z06 is staying in my garage. ... Nothing beats the look of the FRC/Z06 !
