Since last messing with the alignment of the throw arm shaft offset on my MGW shifter a few months back- I am experiencing more than normal challenge in engaging 5th gear while on the fly.
I cannot remember the the way I originally had the offset ( i.e. pointing towards my knee or 6 o'clock, or towards 4 o'clock).
Do you have any issue getting into 5th ? That is the only gear change that I seem to have an issue with - which I do not remember with the sloppy oem shifter.
It's fine if my hand is placed properly. But I had the same issue with the B&M Ripper shifter.
Yeah- like when I'm on the fly 1-2-3-4 and then ooops nearly into reverse going to 5th.. very aggravating. Funny thing is that is was never an issue before installing the MGW.
If the trouble you're encountering is you actually are ending up over in the reverse gate then your reverse lockout system isn't working properly. You shouldn't be able to end up over in reverse while moving over 2mph or something unless you flat out muscle the heck out of the shifter into reverse to overcome the lockout solenoid. As far as I know you can't do that by accident unless your alter ego is the Hulk...
Mine (with B&M Sport shifter) occasionally will let the shifter over in the reverse gate going for 5th as well, don't think it has anything to do with the shifter alignment unless I'm mistaken. I can feel it happen and catch myself and move back to 5th... And yes I agree it is very annoying.
Seems most people post about the solenoid failing to where it never releases so it's super hard to get into reverse when trying to, but it does have issues the other way as well. Mine is intermittent, most of the time it works as designed... I'm not sure if the solenoid is the culprit in this type of case or if there is some problem w/ another component in the system that controls when you're "allowed" to shift into the reverse gate...

Thanks - guess I did not quite express the situation accurately. I am not getting into reverse - rather I am missing 5th and hitting the reverse lock-out. I am sure it is just my bad shifting, it's just a lot more sensitive with the MGW shifter.
Me too. But to the OP - it sounds like your actual shifter might need adjustment, not just the offset. Also, how do you make your 4-5 shift? I never miss it when I keep my elbow in near my body and push with my shoulder. Typically if I have a problem with 4-5 it's because I was sloppy by trying to shift with my forearm while my elbow was sticking out.

I will try keeping my elbow in- honestly never pay attention to that.
Thanks- I re-adjusted the shifter offset towards my knee, and voila shifting has improved.
I had spoken with MGW about the stiffness in engaging reverse and the person recommended adjusting the offset the other way. This did improve the ease of engaging reverse, but at the aggravation of missing 5th
