I've not done it myself so I suggest you ask in the Tech section as there are people there who have done this. I know you'll have to pull the steering rack out as you'll need to move the engine forward to get it off the torque tube. As for the PS pump and gear, its a PITA unless your pulley has the holes in it to get to the mount bolts behind it. If no holes, you'll need the PS pulley remover kit.
There is so little room to work in so pull the radiator and steering rack out first. That'll make room to then get pump bracket off. The Steering rack needs to come off anyway so you can pull the engine forward so might as well yank it out first!
As for needing to pull off the rack before the PS pump assy- Im assuming you're talking about the alternator/ PS pump bracket? If you are then no you dont have to pull the rack out first. Pulling the rack out isnt even necessary for engine removal but I did it because the more wiggle room you have the better.
Also the abs control module doesnt get rmvd either- you just zip tie it out of the way.
Its different on the various years in regards to the ABS unit. My '99, I had to remove it in order to take off the PS Pump. Some years, the ABS unit is in the rear of the car.

You will get about 50/50 on which is better from the top are dropping it and the cradle. I say do it the way you think you feel better with. But one thing from the top you will take a chance of doing bad damage to the front bumper are the fenders. Robert
Just follow cajundudes diy. That is how I did mine. If you can drop it from the bottom, it would be better. It was hard getting splines to line up and go on easily. I ended up having to repl pilot bearing in less than a year, so be careful. I took everything out from the front of mine from intake, radiator, steering rack and even ac compressor. Good Luck.
