Default Tire Raplacement

I have read so many articles on replacement tires, don't know which way to go, I looked up and have possible decided on
Michelin Pilot Sport Ps2's or
Michelin Pilot Sport A/s Plus Run Flat
I now have the Goodyear EMT's, and thoughts on these tires?
Thanks

Michelin Pilot Sport Ps2's - Considered these
Michelin Pilot Sport A/s Plus Run Flat - Purchased these
I now have the Goodyear EMT's, - use them for crash barriers

Toss up between Pilot Sport PS2's and the Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZP's. Went with the A/S Plus ZP's for the convenience of the the run flats plus tire wear rating. Compared to the old GY runflats, night and day. Handling, ride, noise all improved. Its a new car again. Great deal through forum vendor Tire Rack

Both those tires you mention are very good. You might also want to consider a tire like the Hankook Ventus V12.

I have the Michelin Pilot Sport Ps2's, I love'em. Quiet, nice ride. And compared to the runflats they grab much better.

Just so I understand you say the Pilot Sport Ps2's in the non run flat, because there are the Ps2's with ZP. I did buy a tire repair kit and I think I should go for the non run flats???

The Pilot Sport PS2 ZP is a direct competitor to the OEM Eagle F1 EMT. They both are about the same price.

Certainly the PS2 is a newer generation tire. It also happens to be the OEM tire for the Corvette ZR1.

The A/S Pilot Sport ZP Plus is the 50K mile warranty ultra high performance tire for all season for the C5. I'm on my second set.

I've only run ZPs/EMTs on the C5 so can't voice much of an opinion on going non-runflat. And only non-runflats on C4's never an EMT there.

And I only have experience with the OEM F1 EMT from 13K on, no experience with it brand new. We have a member that just recently replaced his worn out F1 EMTs with a new set, so he would be able to give the best reference as to how it is from a worn F1 EMT to a brand new one on the same vehicle.

I continue to think that when this set of Michelin's wear out I'll go back to the OEM Eagle F1 EMT.

Jet-Jock, I ran two set of the GY EMT's on my 98 before moving onto the Michelin PS A/S Plus ZP's.

Out of curiousity, why would you retro back to the 14+ year old technology of the GY F1 EMT's?

I still don't understand why GY never produced a updated version for the C5's. They never even produced C5 stock sizes of the GY Gen2 F1 EMT's that came on C6's.

Curious, when you replaced the first set with new GY EMTs, how were they?

I moved from my original set right to the A/S ZP, so I never had the opportunity to drive the GY EMT new.

I like the A/S ZP, and Michelin/Discount Tire stands behind the wear warranty, they just wear quickly for a 500 wear rated tire, we should see close to 45K, but through 2.5 sets they seem to go at 20-24k.

I like the more aggressive stance of the Eagle EMT, I tried the PS2 but wasn't so crazy about them. I actually liked the A/S better than the PS2.

I realize this is a lame response but the car is as old as the tire designed for it.

I see you amended, yeah I don't know because the next generation EMT is not in C5 sizes, and this new tire GY came out with is so freaking expensive, I'm not sure what they are thinking. From what I have read in research the Eagle F1 is still a good design, I've seen people here get crazy mileage out of them. Some hate them just because they are EMTs, of course GY makes the same tire in a non-EMT but not in you guessed it C5 sizes.

So that's why I like to interview people who have replaced their OE EMTs with a new set to find out how the new tires were/are.

Why just today I was following a black vert C5 and he had the Eagle EMTs on his, you could spot them easily because of that wide azz stance.

Jet,

The first set of GY F1 emt's lasted about 15,000 miles, and I had some front tire uneven wear due to the initial factory alignment specs causing premature wear on the front tire inner tread. That along with about 6 years of age, they were rock hard, trammelled all over the road and slick on wet highways forced the change out. I went with the 2nd set of GY F1 emt's due to a great price on a new set of 4. They were take offs from a new 2000 C5, so by the time I installed those they were already close to 3 years old. The 2nd set was great for about 12000 miles then followed the same route as the original set, noisy, loose, trammell, terrible in rain. After 5-6 years and 22,000 miles they were shot. Same issues as described above. I agree with the look of the GY F1's especially noticeable on the rear. But after 2 sets, 370000 miles and knowing exactly what the 3rd set was going to turn out like, it was time to upgrade, different manufacturer, newer techology, and competitive pricing, along with a decent treadwear warranty sealed the deal. I would have liked to stay with GY, but they lost the C5 market out without a upgraded tire, especially in stock C5 sizes.
