Hey guys, i had the day off and i decided to go out and attempt some red pin striping to my factory Z06 wheels. I got it at O'reilly Auto Parts. I personally love it. Let me know what you think.
I hope you have better luck than I did though. When the AZ temperatures rose and the wheels got hot (on a non GM car), the tape came off at highway speed. I was removing red vinyl pin striping fragments for days. I imagine a few other drivers did as well...

hotwheels post got me thinking (its rare) was there any prep work done to the rims, I imagine any wax or oils on the rim could cause the stickers to fling off in the heat.
I'm sure some simple green would do the trick.
It looks like time and money well spent. I too am curious about surface preparation. I would have started with hot soapy water, hair dryer and alcohol then maybe a couple coats of paste wax to complete the job? I wish I could have positive results with more of my DIY attempts.
I ordered "motorcycle" pinstripes that are already shaped in an arc - you can get 17" 18" etc... makes them easy to apply (just used them on my track-day wagon wheels)
