Another What's it worth question
I have a co worker whos father just passed. He had a 1999 red convertible with 17K miles. It's a 6 speed and I really have no more information at this time. What is a fair figure for both the family and the buyer?

I asked a local corvette dealer and he indicated $15k-$16k so I think your probably close at $17k. The person in charge of the estate mentioned taking the car to Carmax and I told them I'm not sure Carmax will purchase a car that old. I wish I could look at the car so I new what options and what the condition really is. The man only had the car a little over a year so it may have several owners as well.
A dealer would probably offer $14,500 saying it's 12 years old and not say anything about the extremely low mileage. They would then advertise it at $18,995 as a low mileage cream puff. $17,000 for a quick sale would be fair to both parties, even though I might pay more if I was in the market for a red, 6 speed, vert.
My brother owned a 99 6 sp convertible when he died last year... His 99 was a Navy Met. Blue with Tan interior and had 14,000 miles on it... He also owned an 80 and a Vortec Supercharged 92 ....
Took the cars to Carlisle and sold the 99 for $19,500 in about 2 hours (before 9 AM) on Friday morning and that was the asking price ...
This was stock with the wagon wheels and stock exhaust system....
Somebody will pay a slight premium for a very low mileage Corvette... My own 98 6 sp Convertible just hit 26,000 last week...BUT I am NOT even thinking of selling it...If I did now own my car I would have my Brothers 99 in the garage now...

I've got more information on the car now. It's a 99 Torch red with black top and interior. It actually has 14800 miles at this time and the tires are less than a year old. Has heads up and sport seats. Wagons are gone and replaced with chrome thin spkokes. Looking for $18k and needs to be gone before august when probate is over. The man that owned the car was in his 70's and this car was part of his bucket list
Sorry to hear about the loss. Just a suggestion but why don't you list the car on the forum and sell to a fellow enthusiast. That way you know it will be taken care of. Good luck.

I was just in the market for nearly this exact car. I have a deposit on one otherwise I would be very interested in this one.
If it was an A4, I would tend to agree with the other suggestions of $18K or so. Nothing against automatics, except that they are much more common.
One car that I was looking at was a 99 6M with 29k and similar options and a Borla exhaust. It sold for $20,500. Assuming this one is nice and doesn't have need any deferred maintenance, I think it is worth $20k-$22k. If it has been sitting for a long time without being started or driven, I would think it would be worth less. A Pewter 2001 6M with 17k miles and similar options got to $22.6k on e*ay last night and didn't meet reserve.
I think at $18k, a couple of grand is being left on the table and would be a good deal for the buyer, but not for the seller.
My two cents.

Have your co-worker set an asking price of around $20K for the car - that way he would have some wiggle room for negotiation and still be able to get a nice price out of the car.

Or put it up for online auction with a $19.5k reserve. It will sell in a week.
