The girlfriend and I jumped in the Vette and headed off to Cabelas in Hamburg, PA. Topped off the tank with Sunoco 93 octane and hit the road. Made the 168 mile round trip on 5.75 gallons of fuel. All highway driving, about 68-69mph the whole way. 29 miles to the gallon- that little LS1 continues to amaze me!
I just happend to do a fuel test yesterday as well and got 28.16 mpg. While heading south I was bucking a 20 to 25 mph wind which didnt help. Next test I'll do a few things different like watching the rpms to see if there could be a difference and bump up the air psi in the tires just a couple of pounds also.
GG
Mods here are heads, cam, headers, intake. My D.I.C. says my average is 11mpg!!! Of course the Vette is my weekend fun car and I am usually blasting through the gears and having fun. I knew they got good milage but 29mpg for a car that is over 3000lbs and 375horse is unreal.
I am actually amazed that these little tiny eco friendly cars are not getting in the 50MPG range. Little 4 banger, 6 speed manual, 2000lbs- I'm sure it could be done.
Our 07 Focus gets 33-35 hwy mpg at 70 mph.
To get good acceleration, they install lower gears, which keeps the mpg from getting into the 50 mpg range. Very happy with the Vette, very happy with the Focus, very happy with the 850 hp, 5 mpg Falcon.
and it's hard to convince folks that you aren't full of s**t when you tell them that. i constantly get a bit over 29 on constant cruise at just under 80 (usually right on 78mph) with the cruise set. admittedly things are pretty flat throughout the state of florida, but i'm not complaining. beats my hemi magnum hands down..
